I had to remove my side mounted running/turn signal lights. When I removed the yellow plastic cover the paper gasket crumbled from old age. My local RV shop did not have anything to replace with. Is this necessary to keep the moisture out? I could seal the lens cap with silicone but might be a little ugly. Also the back of the assembly mounts flush to the coach. There is what appears to be butyle tape on the back or another caulk that seems similar to butyle. How do you guys seal things up?

Why not just buy a pair of new lights from the local truck stop or RV supply. They don't have to match the old, just match each side of the coach. Measure or take the original in with you as the new ones just need to be the same size or larger . You can add some bling and get chrome frames. My local RV store did not have anything with a flat surface like mine on the back. I'll check around for other supplies.

The paper gasket was not a vital component. The cheap way out is to drill a 1/16" hole in the bottom of the lens. The problem arises when water gets in and cannot get out. I found this solution to my 5er's clearance lights holding water and filling to the wiring hole leading into the wall, which then rotted out the wood. The clearance lights base's were sealed to the RV's exterior, preventing water from escaping instead of running into the wall, instead of sealing the wiring hole in the wall.
