Does anyone have a reference for well qualified coach inspector in the
Denver, CO area?

This is for a 2006 Class A, diesel motor home.

Hey Lanny,

Wanted to give you an update on my status. I never found a good house inspector. But the dot safety inspection did a thorough job I think. Found several issues the dealer neglected to look for. Overall he said the rig appears to bein great shape. Rust present, leaking gear box, slobber tube / blow by tube was plugged off with a screw. Checked several things I had found were issues on this rig. Checked bushings, jacks etc... I know you spoke with Ken. I would recommend they do a chassis check / safety inspection for you.

Would be happy to look at the rig for you and get some general idea of the condition if you like? I will be at transwest all weekend. So far transwest seems to be living up to their word. Granted they missed the leaking steering gear box and cracked belts and hoses which tells me they didn't really look very hard.

This is a used rig so I get that, but if you say they will inspect and repair issues, then really inspect feel free to call me. Sent you a pm with my number.

Jim

Ok I got to get in on this as this in another post that brought up the "house inspection" thing....

Having been in the property business... and knowing about how worthless a "home inspection" is unless you know and trust the person and reputation.... I got to ask what is the expectation of one of these inspections?

Like in a home inspection.. if a home inspector "misses something" your limit of claim is to the cost of the inspection. Can you go back and sue or ask for your money back when they miss something in a "house inspection"?

Also the big things like brake hoses, transmission, fridge burn out... are things that you can not see in an inspection. I am really curios to hear the feedback on this.

Ok, I'll bite.

99% of the time, experienced RVers will reply to a newbie like me to get it inspected by an independent inspector not associated with the dealer. Why? My guess is that purchasing an RV new or used is a crap shoot. All I can do is give myself the peace of mind that I did everything I could to get a good deal on a good rig. If it blows up in my face, it won't be because I didn't do my best to weed through the dishonest sellers private and dealers.

I know these inspections are not often worth the paper they are printed on. But having another set of eyes doesn't hurt. Hopefully the inspector will be honest and thorough. Thus the reason many newbies or experienced RVers seek RECOMMENDATIONS from others to try and get someone who did a good job for someone else.

Hopefully they will have experience with RV systems and can point out some of the things we are blind about due to excitement or inexperience.

We know there is no recourse - just trying to get some help.

FYI - my dealer has said some things that they were going to do. I knew what they were saying made little fiscal sense for them. But I let them do their thing and they found and fixed some issues. My inspector for the chassis and dot inspection found things the dealer either didn't look for or didn't want to fix. Now I can approach my dealer with these issues and negotiate or walk away.

Probably saving me several thousand dollars for this 200$ inspection.

I wish I could have found a decent RV inspector - I am on my own right now. I have tried to do my best but fear it isn't going to be good enough. My dealer seems to be willing to work with me on several issues and I am grateful for that, but given the horror stories I will likely never feel fully confident in my choice - especially when I have to fix something major.

Hope this helps. Denver is a big area and haven't found a good inspector. Sounds like a great business opportunity for a knowledgeable person.

Jim

Thanks for the offer to "check out" my coach.

I just sent you a PM. But I never received yours.

If you can find a "qualified" inspector, there eyes on your coach have a definite value. I have personal proof of that.

I worked construction when I first got out of NAVY.
I did my own inspections having a good background in the trades.
But I also hired a 'Home Inspector' and was on site the day of inspections.

As for our RVs.........
I took 4 hours to complete MY PDI before accepting delivery of our 5th wheel

If I had been purchasing a used Motorhome I would do the house/coach portion and have the chassis inspected by a 'certified mechanic'

If purchasing from a far..then I would hire a 'RV Inspector' .....at least they would provide a non-bias OPINION as to condition and value.

Glad the Links were of value for you.
Happy hunting

Agreed. The chassis inspection saved me at least a grand in repairs - money well spent. Once I determined there were no leaks or water damage, the house inspection I did myself. With yesterday's surprises I will be doing a systems test again on everything today!
