Segway rack
My wife and I have gone on a few Segway tours. We have fallen in love with Segways. As they get 20+ miles on a charge, we are looking at getting 2 of them in place of doing a TOAD for some trips. We figure we could put them on a hitch platform below the bikes using a double hitch adapter.
So I was curios if anyone else has done this? What was your experience or if you had ever thought of doing it?

What do you do with a TOAD when its raining? You hang out at the rig or do indoor events. Not to mention I rode a motorcycle for 4 years as my only mode of transportation when I was younger... You can wear a dry suit.
Really we are not full timers. We are event or place people for now.

How will you use the Segway to bring home 6 bags of groceries? How will you use the Segway to drive through the mountains to the next town on a scenic byway? Far too limiting in my opinion.

Well with the X2 SE (similar to the model cops use) they have saddle bags that go on the wheels, plus there is always a backpack and they are all terrain. But like I said we are not full timing. Our tips are 1 maybe 2 weeks at the longest...for now. Long weekends are our thing right now. Barely even enough time to fill the dark tank. We have a Kia Soul (front wheel drive) that I am going to get a carrier for, but we are thinking that based on our types of usage why waste the gas.

But as I am cheap I got my eye on a pair of gen1 Segways at auction that have never been used.

We went toad less for 10 years. I trailered my motorcycle or we rented cars if needed at our destinations. We finally broke down and purchased a Chevy Spark which is about the same size as your Kia Soul that we tow 4 down. It doesn't take that much more gas to tow it.
Good luck with your decision.

They are not street-legal, nor safe to mix with pedestrians on crowded sidewalks. All the segway tours I've seen are separated from foot traffic. I know the nearby college-dominated city doesn't allow them on pedestrian/bike paths, sidewalks, or of course on streets.

That was another part of the Segway plan... In our case going new wave and doing Uber for longer segments.. or as was brought up... rainy days.
That "much more gas"... is it on diesel pusher or gas?

We take Segway tours all over the country and I looked into buying a couple about 5 years ago just to use around home.
What I discovered was they are legal in some towns and not in other towns. Our town wouldn't let you ride them on sidewalks.
At that time they cost about $4,000. How much are they going for now?

I bought a Segway recently and took it on one of our trips. What a blast! We had the toad with us so it wasn't our only transportation though. A pair of Segway's is a nice option I'll have to look into. The drawbacks have already been mentioned but for events and around the campground it works.

City restrictions is somewhat of a concern. However many cities have now adopted them, as noted by the tour availability. But then again unless you are using your rig for college event tailgating... is that really a concern. In most places you camp... if you are doing destination ... and you need to run to the store because you forgot something or to get to something.. is it really going to be an issue? How many times do you see golf carts parked at the store or place?
As for prices on the newer X2 Se... beyond sticker we have not shopped yet. And we all know how the "sticker price" goes.
