Service Ladder

Just purchased our 2015 Newmar Dutch Star 4369 and am searching for a ladder that will allow me to get on the roof. Other than a standard ladder, can anyone recommend a good ladder? I love to be able to store it in the bay, but not 100% necessary.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I have a collapsible ladder that I bought on Amazon for 107.00 that goes up to 14 ft and pivots in the middle to make a 7 ft step ladder and it fits in the basement. Search on Amazon for collapsible ladders.

Many of us bought a telescoping ladder. You want one that is about 15' tall, so can transition from the ladder to the roof safely. You can install a shelf in the first bay behind the passenger door, that will just fit the ladder. Some have the optional freezer there. Even with the freezer, you can add a shelf about 6" from the top. The 15' ladder will fit perfectly on that shelf.

If you go with the telescoping ladder, take a Sharpie and mark where it will rest against the roof and the cut some pool noodles the length of the pole between the rungs.

When using the ladder, place it on the passenger side, with the left side of the ladder against the bedroom slide. This will help stabilize it. I bought this model because it has the highest weight rating.

Cosco 16' telescoping ladder. The reason for 16' is, ladder safety experts recommend 3' above roof level.

Check out the telescoping ladder on Amazon. Very compact mine is 14' max. And 325 lb rating, He Depot and Lowe's have them too.

Another nod for the telescoping ladder. Easier to ascend and descend. Light weight and compact. Can be placed anywhere on the coach where roof access is needed.

I would also recommend securing the ladder to the coach with 2 tie-down straps to prevent the bottom from kicking out when you grab the 3’ extending above the roof.

I carry two ladders, one is an 7' "A" frame that folds up into about 5" square x 7" long. The other is about 12 1/2' telescoping and it is my "go to" ladder when I need one. It's any length you need and gets me on top of the coach. I zip-tied some pipe insulation around the top step to cushion it on the sides of the coach.

Hi Don! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

My DP has a ladder on the back so don't need another one. I do carry a 4' stepladder which comes in handy quite a lot. I have a question for those with the telescopic ladders. How do the sections lock together? I thought about getting one but don't know if I could trust it.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

I like the concept. Afraid of the design...

Personally I carry a 13' Cosco multi-position ladder, but is hard for me to make the transition from roof onto ladder as there is nothing to hold onto while doing so. Plus it is heavy, although convenient with the different positions.

That is why I recommended the telescoping ladder.
Joe, I have read of one collapsing with an irv2.com member about 6-7 years ago. I assumed it was operator error, failing to lock the sections properly.

Just bought this one at my local Lowes. 14' with 300# limit. Marked down to $89 from $159 with another $9 off for military discount. Not bad for $80.

My coach came with the top half of the ladder attached to the coach and the bottom half to carry with me. I leave the bottom half in storage and carry a standard 6' aluminum ladder. I store it on the ceiling of the forward basement compartment with bungee cords. It is tall enough to reach the upper half of the attached ladder and also reach anything else around the coach.

This ladder has a 14 ft REACH but is only about 10 1/2 ft tall which may not be long enough to get you on the roof of your MH. I think this might be a better alternative and is only @ $15 more.

Or this one which is only @ $25 more.
