Short guy

I have an issue that others may have encountered. I am five foot seven inches tall and have a Class A DP. I bought it new last year. With the seat all the way forward, I can easily reach the lower part of the steering wheel, but to move to the top where I feel comfortable driving long distances, I have to stretch my arms, which gets tiresome after a while. I spoke with the factory and they said that the mounting points are preset so they could not move the seat forward. Is there any type of back cushion available to help move me a little forward? I think a couple of inches would suffice. (and no, I don't need blocks on the pedals...lol)

Doesn't your steering wheel tilt? I'm only 5'2" and don't have any problem but then I don't have a DP if that makes any difference.(and I don't have blocks on the pedals either lol!)

Well you tower over me by an inch. My rig, used, came with a block on the accelerator. What I found I have to do is move the seat all the way forward and use the tilt buttons to tilt all the way forward and use a small pillow in the small of my back. Also I have adapted my driving style to use "shuffle steering" with my hands at 8 and 4. It takes awhile to get use to but is less fatiguing. Just google it to fine out more about. Good Luck and Happy Trails

HAVE a fabricator look at themounting for the seat. Should be able to build a plate to move the existing seat fire a rd without gaining height.

I agree with "Oylen".....you;re not talking a huge expense to make your MH safer and more comfortable to drive. The base of your seat is just a tower with a plate on the top and bottom. Ass a second plate to the bottom moving the seat forward.

Hi Don,

Not sure whether sarcasm or auto correct was helping you with the last sentence of your response

Would you guys suggest looking toward someone that specializes in RV's or where would you suggest?

There is nothing particularly "RV" about the seat and mounting. Moving or raising the seat is basic mechanical stuff and doesn't require the services of an RV shop.

Most DPs have pretty decent seating & steering wheel adjustments, so I'm somewhat surprised yours doesn't have enough tilt to the seat back and/or tilt & telescope for the wheel to get you comfortable. I'm only an inch taller than you and not long of arm or leg.

There are all sorts of add-ons for car seats (and office chairs too) that could probably help you as well. Here are a few sources:
Back, Lumbar Cushions for Car & Office | Relax The Back
Lumbar Support and Seat Cushions - AutoSport Catalog
Carex Memory Foam Lumbar Support Cushion - Walmart.com

Any "metal fabricator" or "machine shop" can/will modify your seat base/pedestal.
However you may have to remove the seat and the base... and take the base to their shop.
I had a metal fabricator shorten my drivers seat pedestal
1 1/2" so my "vertically challenged", (5'-2"), wife could more comfortably/safely reach the pedals.

Actually, I can get closer with the seat tilt and steering wheel adjustments, but only in certain positions. I like to change the positions up once in a while on a long trip to give my butt a rest from the same position.....

There are indeed back cushions and seat cushions and pedal extensions and you can get a smaller wheel (less distance to reach) though that may take some doing ... I forget the name of the company that makes the wheels for Workhorse. er, made.

Wright and Fillipus if I've not mangled it too badly, sells much of this stuff (They are a medical supply house). kind of pricy buying from them though.. That's about all I can tell you since I have the other problem (Over six foot tall).
