My 2014 Dutch Star came with the two different length mirrors. The arm on the driver's side is short and the mirror is viewed through the side window like yours. On my Monaco, it had the long arm and the mirror was viewed through the windshield, which is what I really liked. It also allowed me to close the shade on the driver's side when I was getting baked, yet still be able to see alongside the coach.
On my Dutch Star, even though it had the short arm, it was angled back. Apparently this was done while they're in production and prevents them from getting smacked. I moved the arm forward so that it's pointed forward and away from the coach. This required that the mirror head be rotated 180 degrees. This solved some of the noise issue.
Another thing that the Dutch Star had as an issue was the window frame was allowing some air in at the joint where the sliding window met the stationary window. I took a piece of 3/8" rubber tubing, about 24" long and brought it on my next trip. In a safe area while on cruise, I was able to run one end of the tube along the window frame with the other end in my ear. You'll hear any leaks if they're there.
