Slide motor spins, won't retract

We have a 1999 Winnebago Ultimate Freedom 40JD. We just arrived at a new campsite near Mountain Home AR and set up. Last night, when I set the auto levelers, everything worked fine, then I noticed that although the jacks were down, the panel showed only two were down. Not thinking much of it I extended our one slide out and with only about 2" left to go out it stopped, but the motor kept running, sounding like whatever it fed into wasn't engaging. I "think" we have a 610 series HWH system, but not positive, and naturally this is a weekend. Any suggestions?

Sounds to me like you sheared a pin on the shaft.

When ours quit we used the 2 cranks that came with our 03 Sightseer. We had what I think they called an actuator go bad.

There are deifferent kinds of slides,, Need to know if slide is a cable car (There are two cables one low one high on the foreward side of the slide and 2 more on the rear), Hydraulic, or rack and pinion These have 2 or 3 long toothed rails under the slide).

In the last case.. Most likely sheared a couple of shear pins, these pins are OFTEN grade 8 bolts, 1/4" diameter, You need to get replacement bolts that are long enough so that ALL the threads are exposed when you shove it through the shaft then washer it down and apply a NYLOCK nut on top of that.

That's what I was hoping, but where would that pin be? Do you have to remove the motor to get to it. The motor, hydraulic pump, reservoir and solenoids are all together amidst a big jumble of wiring. All fuses are intact, but that's as far as I can get, seeing no sign of sheaqr pins or keyways.

Wierd, but although our manuals show a crank, there is none!

Could it be that the system is low on fluid and the pump is cavitating? If not the answer is here http://www.hwh.com/info3.html

If it is hydraulic, check fluid level as well.

If it is rack and pinion (you said motor spins, not pump spins) shear pins.

If your manual shows a crank for manual operation of the slides you may have a Lippert 14-1 gear reduction worm drive set up on your slides. I repaired one on a Holiday Rambler 5er, and have seen the system on Cougars, I have pictures , that I'll find and post.

If you slide is most of the way out , look underneath , for a set up like this gold tube 3 " diameter going from the outside edge of the slide to under the main body of the coach. ( Some models are black ) If you have one of these I can describe the repair and manual operation.
