Question Slide Out Seals??

So here's the rub (pun intended), I need to replace my slide out seals which have flattened to the point that I have the outer wall of the slides rubbing against the coach when closed - not enough seal left I guess.

Here's the other problem - it looks like the previous owner simply slapped some self-adhesive, automotive grade seal against the slides. It is about 1/2" x 1/2" round seal. Therefore, I don't know the style of seal that was original and/or the best solution for my baby.

I've seen other coaches with a higher quality, larger rubber seal in a variety of styles, but I am having a lot of trouble finding slide out seals online or otherwise.

Experts - please help me:

1) is it o.k. to use the cheaper automotive seals and just replace them more often,
2) is there a place you recommend I can get seals more specific to slide outs - with options to view,
3) any other tricks or thoughts are welcome.

Thanks to all - you have saved me many times already!!!

I just last week bought 50 feet of double bulb with a 1 inch wiper seal off E-Bay for around 5 dollars a foot. Type in slide out seal and several different styles will show up.

Thanks for the feedback, guys! I ordered catalogs for pricing and to see if I can recreate the original, or best, seal options for the slide outs.

Very helpful!

After you put in new seals, get some slide seal lube at Camping World and lube them every few months. Then they will last much longer. DACOTAH

Ref slide seal lube, we have been using 303 for 8 years (2 rigs) and we spend a lot of time in the extremes -- winter in mountains and Nevada/So Cal deserts in the summer...yes, I know we're nuts.

If you want to know what kind of seals were on there originally, call Thor Motorized Services at (877) 855-2867. They should be able to steer you to a source for replacements.

Thanks again guys! I get my rig back from service this week, and I have already received catalogs on various weatherstripping seals.

Once I have it home, I can give it a good look and pick out the seal type that will seal the best. I'll also call Thor as suggested - great advice!

Safe travels.................
