Slide out supports

When we bought our coach we found two slideout support things. I'm not sure exactly what you call them. They screw out to help support the slidouts when closed. Does anybody out there regularly use these things?

Manual slide locks , to prevent slide movement when driving , many newer coaches have automatic locks and some older units like mine have mounted manual locks that just have to be pushed over center , considering how most slides are secured without them , I consider them cheap insurance.

Yes, we used ours faithfully on the large living room slide...the slide was electrically operated.

Many folks have said not to use them because you are in a lot of trouble if the RV shifts at all while the slides are out. The slides are meant to be used without them.

I think the OP means the type of adjustable rods that prevent the slide from coming out from the stowed position while driving. You're right about the kind that help support the weight of an extended slide while parked.

If provided, I would use them. They keep the rattling down while driving, especially the large slide behind the driver's seat. If you do decide to use them, paint a red dot on the corresponding slide button to remind yourself to remove them before opening the slide.

I wonder if he may be seeing supports that go outside under the slideout to help support the weight?

The '02 Dutch Star came with them built in. The only one I regularly used was the one right behind the drivers head since it rattled otherwise. Not once in the 13 years we owned the rig did a slide move at all.
