Slide stabilizers

Units such as these:Stromberg Carlson Products Inc - Jack-in-a-Box Slide-Out Stabilizers, Set of 2 - Slideouts & Storage Bays - Camping World
Are they necessary or overkill? Anybody use them?

I would never use those. What if something happened to your jacks and the coach came down on a stationary object like those jacks? Damage will be done to your slide.

Very bad idea...what if you have a flat? The entire weight of the RV will go from the tires to the slide out support...something's got to give. Bend the frame, break the slide...who knows.

I have them in use right now and find they work great for minimizing vibration and motion in the trailer. I have suffered low tire without it affecting the stabilizers or the slideout. IMHO they are safe and will continue to use them.

Maybe if you have other jacks and remember to remove the stabilizers before the jacks it may be safe.If you have a tire go soft with the slide propped tight it could be a problem.If that never happens no problem.

I've never felt the need for anything to support my slideouts (3 motorhomes and one trailer w/slides). I guess if the slide was shaky, I would have to consider some sort of support, assuming I couldn't fix the underlying cause.

Had a coach with a wobbly entry step once - used a small jack under that. Same principle - and same risks.

Slideout stabilizers = BAD IDEA. The slideouts were designed to be a cantilever load from the main body of the RV. If I lock them in a rigid position, any movement of the RV subjects them and their supporting structure to loads for which they were never designed. As was stated, if an RV's jack system leaked down, one could wind up in a situation where the slideouts were trying to support the weight of the RV - and that wouldn't turn out well!!
