Slide topper spring

One of my slide toppers has no spring back at all which allows the fabric to gather and roll up into the slide as it closes.
Is there a possibility that the spring inside can be rewound with tension or will I most likely be needing a new spring?

It sounds like your spring is broken. That's what happened to mine. Below is a link to the thread I posted yesterday about it.

I figured that the spring was probably kaput. Priced a new one at $95 I hope that's the average, as I haven't had time to price any other sources yet. I know I'm going to have to replace the fabric also.

I concur. Most likely the spring is rusted and broken in two.

I think they were about $79.95, but don't remember where.

That's for the Carefree Omega I, yours may be different! Below is one link to that one.

I just had the same problem with two of my toppers. They are the same as yours. The springs rusted through and broke, and lost tension. I got new ones from a dealer on ebay for $79.95 each, and easily installed them. They come with instructions to fit new spring.

I have my spring and material enroute. Anyone know the correct amount of turns on the spring to get correct tension?

You better check with Carefree on that! My Omega I was 17 turns, but yours could be completely different!
