Slideout Flooring in 2005 Fleetwood Discovery

Has anyone replaced their carpet for laminate flooring in a 2005 fleet wood discovery. It does not have rollers like most other models. The slide scratches everything we try. Any suggestions? I have researched everything I could think of.

Why would the slide scratch the floor? What does it have if not rollers? Are the rollers clean? I have noticed that the floor under the slides aren't cleaned post manufacturer. You might jack up the slide and clean the bottom while you are doing your floor. I don't know what slide system is on yours so can't give you any more details.

Maybe it should have rollers added...there are some Newmar rollers for sale in the classifieds...

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

I'm not familiar with your rig so can't offer suggestions! Have fun and keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

If you are raising the level of the floor by the thickness of the laminate and its under-pad, that might be the problem.

I just replaced my flooring with laminate flooring and yes the slide will scratch the new floor but here is what I did, 1st off there is plastic glides under the slide on each side inside the RV, you need to bring the slide out in about a foot to get to them, they are screwed on, remove them and file them down smooth and reinstall, than with the slide in about 3 to 5 inches use a air gun and blow out under the slide inside the RV to clean out all little rocks and debri built up from the years of use, also use a wet rag and get under the slide inside and clean it as much as you can, use the file on any sharp things sticking down if you come across any, then use WD-40 and spray under the slide inside to lubricate the slide underside as it slides onto the floor, than you can install your new floors.

Note it might be wise to blow out under the slide often, maybe 3 to 4 times per year depending on your use and respray WD-40 under the slide inside to keep it sliding smooth across new laminate floors..

What does most of the scratches are small rocks that get under the slide when you come in and out of RV, they get stuck under your shoes and find there way under the slide.

Yes you might get some small scratches over time but just buy some touchup scratch pens for laminate floors..

As to the rollers stated above I don't see where they could even be installed under the Fleetwood slides of your year, mine is a 08 Fleetwood Bounder with a flat floor slide out, maybe the same as yours.

We did the Allure thing in our 2007 Discovery, the biggest marks are on both ends, there was some good advice on this thread to address this. We have a couple of thin rugs we put down on each end, we also vacuum the floor before with a Dyson stick vacuum cleaner before retracting the slides. You won't miss that carpet.

we replaced our floor as well and bought a rubber backed entry door mat 3 x4 foot cut into 6 inch strips , placed at 3 foot intervals, slide out glides easily on rug. it was the black mat with 1 inch squares, from Lowes, no problems. Slide outs were designed to glide on carpet that we removed
