Slideout Topper Material Replacement

The vinyl material on the slideout topper is beginning to start to flake off. I am going to replace it with new material. Is there any "aftermarket" manufacturers besides Carefree or A&E? I am not satisfied with the A&E material. With the care that we have given these, they should have lasted a lot longer.
Thanks,
Indiana Journey

I have heard that Toughtops.com has a heavier fabric but haven't needed any yet. Good luck

I removed my toppers and took the material to an awning shop. they replaced the fabric with Sunbrella (brand name) and I reinstalled. Been three years now.........good stuff and tons of color choices.

My ToughTop awnings just came in today after I went to work. Ordered two of them, one for the short bedroom slide, 85" and the main slide about 156". Came to just under $300 incl. shipping for both.

I replaced my slide-out toppers with Tough Tops RV Slide Out Awnings, Replacement Fabric. The material is noticeably heavier than the original A&E.

Send them an e-mail, he will answer any questions.

My slide awning material on large slide came loose and billowed in the air ruining it. It looked to me like the spring had broke and let the wind under it. I had the material replaced and the Rv repair shop said spring was OK but couldn't tell me why it happened. I drove another 200 mi and the same thing happened but I saved the material and rolled the awning back up, putting 2 screws in the awning guard to hold it . Anyone have any answeres for this. How would I check awning spring tension or if it is broken.

Jeanick,

I found this installatioin instruction that might have the information you are looking for. Make sure the 'anit-billow' lock is installed and adjusted correctly.

If you are having billowing of the main awning I suggest that your problem is not tension. You need an awning billowing lock. There are several available at places like camping world and RVUpgrades - one of the sponsors of this forum.

these locks clamp the roller and prevent it from rolling out the awning material when from the wind when going down the highway and are easy to use.

I've mentioned this before, but for us, Shade Pro is hard to beat. They use Sunbrella fabric, custom make the topper to match your slide, provde easy to follow instructions, have resonable prices, and ship free. We have replaced all of our 3 toppers and have had no problems whatsoever.

I suggest you call the above mentioned suppliers and talk to them all before making your decision.
