smelly black tank
Is it worth it to have your gray and black tanks turbo flushed. It costs $195 and I don't know if it is worth it or whether it needs to be done.

Neither of my !8 year old tanks have ever been "turbo flushed), or otherwise professionally cleaned.

Add a "cup" or more of Dawn or Joy(grease eating soap) into the tank and fill with water.......using a hose if you don't want to use the toilet flush(slow) When you see the sud's coming up.......stop, let set for hours...........and try topping it off with more water till full......let sit over night........then empty. See if that helps.........

You don't need to spend all that money. Just get the Happy Camper Extreme for the initial treatment of the black tank, then the regular formula for continued treatment of the black tank and the gray tank. They give you a money-back satisfaction guarantee!

I have a feeling a turbo flush is a 16 year old kid the dealer hires to stand in your bathroom with a flush wand for 20 minutes. The dawn trick works well or like Joe said, Happy camper works great.

X3 on Happy Camper. We use the extreme at the end of each season (not necessary, but makes me feel better) and the regular stuff throughout the summer. Been working for us.

Sounds like a t(c)rap to me . I use Walmart brand dishwasher power dissolved in hot water (a cup+) and baking soda (same way) for sweetening after each dump. Had a smell from the hopper when we first got this coach last year. No more since we have been using this treatment. It's as close to septic safe as you can get for the money.

Another trick some have done is to empty the tank, pour a cup of dawn down the toilet and then dump 20-40# of ice cubes down the toilet. Get in and drive in an area that allows you to swerve side to side. I am told that as the ice cubes slide around and thaw with the dawn, it loosens any solids on the bottom. Then add 20 gallons of fresh water and slosh it around. Then dump the tank and do the Dawn treatment described above with fresh water. I've never had to do this, but it sounds like it couldn't hurt.
edit: as a normal treatment, we have used Happy Camper in the past and it was pretty good. We now use a cup or more of Pine Power. It smells fresh and keeps the tank clean.

Ice cube's? Joe just posted this today, and I watched it this morning. Watch the video in post #1

Save the ice cube's for a favorite beverage..............

In a 40' RV? I don't think so.
For me, best method is filling holding tank with water & dumping. Repeat.
For occasion odor control, bleach.

Just wondering...since you push Happy Camper so much and your signature is Happy Camper, are you the owner/dealer?

To the OP. As you can see, everyone has something that has worked for them or heard of it working for others. I think the consensus is "Don't pay a bunch of money to do what you can do by trying any of the above mentioned methods" Once you have it clean, find what method or product works for you to avoid odor in the future.

Nope, wish I was! No connection whatsoever. I just love the way the stuff works and the way the company stands behind their product.
BTW, do you think I should charge them for using my name?

i found my black tank has had no smell as only (1) dump then fill/empty 3 times; (2) toilet seal is tight - water in the bowl all the time.
