Colorado will accept a California smog test?! I believe all of our California smog test machines are tied into the state system so I'd be interested to see how you make out on this problem.

I've got 50 cents that says California would never accept an out of state test but you never know. Perhaps Colorado is different.

Keep us posted please.

I'm confused.

Office supervisor where? California or Colorado?

Did Colorado say it was OK? Did California say it was OK?

Don't wanna lose my 50 cents...

Office in boulder Colorado will not renew my tags without the biannual smog test , since we are in California for the next 6-7 months they will renew if I get smog test in California and send certificate to office in boulder.

Amazing. I didn't know they would do that.

Hope it all works out for you.

Well,
I too will be kind-a surprised if and when, you actually find a place that will smog your coach in CA. The reason, your coach is rated at over 14,000 GVWR. If you were 14,000 or under, yep, you can get and are required for a diesel smog cert. i.e. Pickups, VW diesels, and most others in that weight range. And even that normally applies to ALMOST anything besides a motor home. I'm not an expert at this stuff but, I do have a copy of a letter stating who and what, is exempt. And motor homes are exempt, rule number 10 in the letter.

So, with that being said, I'd kind-a be surprised if ANY smog station in CA, will actually accept your coach and do a smog test on it.

Besides, another thing I'm wondering about. If your home state is CO and, Boulder for specifics, then if THEY want a smog cert, why don't you get it smogged there, if they require one? Do they smog coaches of your size and GVWR in Boulder? Sounds as if they do. Now, this is not new in the smog world. There are a few places in the U.S. that do require smog tests on coaches of our size. I think in my state of AZ, Phoenix and Tucson are two that do require a smog cert. Where we live, in Lake Havasu City, there's no requirements. Heck, even our cars are not smogged here.

CA, being as restrictive to live in as they are, (former CA resident here) I'm actually surprised that motor homes ARE exempt. I figured CA would want every penny they can get and they would try and figure out a way to include EVERY diesel motor home too and, there's a few zillion DIESEL motor homes registered in that state. So, this will be interesting to me, to see how things turn out for you.

Give Franklin Truck a call. I don't think they do testing but they should be able to tell who does. This one is in Indio Franklin Truck Parts, Inc. A full service parts supplier, serving the Inland Empire, Fontana, San Bernardino, Ontario, Pamona, Riverside and Rancho Cucamonga, offering fleets & owner operators quality parts at competitive prices.

There is a local change called smog dogs. Call them and see if they can accommodate you.
