If it hasn't already been said, 100k can get you a very nice used diesel. My first was and is a DP, as I took some advice giving to me many years ago by my uncle that has had quite a few. My good fortune was to run into a needy coach with a motivated seller. My case may not be common.
Another good fortune for me is a very capable Cummins mechanic that bills me $30 an hour because he likes my brother in law and has known him for many years. Win!!
This spring, I'm having the radiators pulled, inspected/cleanedrepaired/replaced and every rubber hose and belt replaced. Also going to steam clean the engine while all is exposed with the radiators pulled. Also need to address a minor axle seal leak on the passenger side.
Yeah, DP can be more costly, but, they also offer much, as well, for the price you pay.
Mine is 15 years old and I'm sure there are parts and pieces that should be replaced now rather than later, when I could be thousands of miles from home.
