Seen lots of discussion on reasons to use SD. But still looking for an answer to ? Do you pay the registration fee every year or just the first time you register? What about the cost of plates? Is that a separate cost from registration?

You pay each year but the fees are low. One of the main advantages as well is the cost of insurance for the coach and toad.

I suspect you are talking about the 3% excise tax which is paid once and is separate from the plate cost.
Our annual plate cost is at about $180 dollars total for car and coach and has been dropping a little each year.
