I was wondering if anyone is carrying a spare tire with their motorhome. My thought is that even though I have road side coverage, what good is it going to do me, if the responding mechanic doesn't have a tire to fit the coach?
My question is two fold, do you carry a spare,and if so, where? Thanks for your insight.

With my W-20 Allegro, the spare tire is attached to the rear end of the motorhome, behind the "Roughing it Smoothly" logo on the metal tire cover. Of course, if I had a rig with 22 inch tires, there would be no spare tire and I suppose I would have to deal with a flat if and when it happened. Have the tire repaired on the scene, if possible.

On my 2003 Suncruiser, I had the larger 22.5 inch tire option where a spare tire could not fit between the frame rails in back.

I bought a raw tire with no rim and put it under the bed. NO way I could lift a tire with rim into the coach, but a raw tire was way lighter. Never needed it over 5 years and 50k miles.

On my current Winn Tour DP, no spare at all. Just prayer and Good Sam ERS...

I have carried a used 22.5" tire on the joey bed in my larger basement compartment for the past two years after I replaced two of my tires. I am thinking I will get rid of it when I replace the other four tires in a few months.

I do not carry a spare but did have a blow out on Labor Day a few years ago. I just called Coach Net and told them what size tire I needed and for someone to come out and change it for me. I was back on the road in two hours on a holiday!

The View came with a spare, and we run with it on the coach. The Vectra did not - and I chose not to try and figure out where to store 150# of wheel and tire.

Of course, if one chose to manhandle it (which I could not), the Vectra (or most any other DP) would be a good coach to run with a spare. You have a "shop" built in. Just put a 3/4" drive air impact on board and you're home free. You have 125 PSI of air and a lift at your disposal!

My coach has a factory spare and I have had to use it. It took several hours to get a service truck out to the area of highway I was on and made what could have been lost days into just lost hours. It is like having fire insurance, you hope you never have to use it but...

We don't carry a spare - no room and don't want the weight. If we did, it would be an unmounted spare.

When we called Coach Net last year because of a flat (we picked up a bolt and the tire went flat while we were stopped overnight), they said there would be a little delay in the service truck arriving because they would be sending him to pick up a new tire just in case the old one wasn't repairable (it was).

This was the first (and only) time we have had to use our roadside assistance, but the gal on the phone sounded like picking up a new tire on the way to repair a flat was standard procedure if you didn't have your own spare. The price for the new tire would have been a bit higher than I would have paid elsewhere, but it was good to know they had me covered in case the old tire was ruined.

I carry a fully mounted spare in the middle of the basement, as far forward as possible. Our coach has way more storage space than we use.

From the added weight view, I can't tell much different from when I'm towing a 5100# SUV and not towing. Or have 1/4 tank of water or full at 110 gallons. For me, a couple hunders #s of tire doesan't make any MPG difference.

The tire is good insurance for something I hope never happens. Traveling with family (kids, grand kids, etc.) it's important, to me, to minimize risks.

YES, one came with our coach, but have never used it.

When I replaced my front tires I saved one for a spare (unmounted) and store it in the basement.

Kinda sounds like going into a casino or living on the edge. Mine has no spare and I see no place to put one. I think I'll take my chances, gamble, and hope my luck holds out

I have a fully mounted tire and wheel under the rear of my Itasca. I needed it once when I had a blowout and stopping the RV ground the rim down. Fortunately I had just bought a used one from a fellow camper at FW and had it in the cargo trailer, so I still have a fully mounted spare. As I write this, I'm not sure the tire is still good. I need to get under there and see what the condition and MFG date is. I guess a spare doesn't do any good unless it is road worthy.
