Spare tire carrier

Been working on this idea in my head for sometime now finally got started on it. Took a cable winch and mounted it on a cross member in rear or frame and made a pulley system with eye hooks and also made a bracket to hold tire up and once tire is in place ran to one Inch bolts thru two of the lug nut holes and put a bolt and washer on and tighten it up to hole in place. So it kind a works like a spare tire system under a truck here's some pics

I like it. My mounted spare is in a side compartment, barley fits. But I could free up some room for beer or fire wood. Did you do any welding on this project?

Yes but nothing on the motorhome bolted everything on didn't want to go thru all the battery cable thing and I can always remove it if I sell for the next on. My old southwind had a place on a cabinet for a spare but it was a 19.5 tire this one has the 22.5 tires so there is no way it would fit in any of my cabinets

Just got it done I don't think I will have any problems it tight up against the frame

Looks good and a great idea. I would like to make a suggestion. Add some sort of safty brace to hold the tire should the lifting cable break. Several thousand miles of bumps and pot holes might possibly wear the cable at the eye hook. That could be fatal to the Fiat that might be following you.

I am a big advocate of carrying a spare after experiencing a couple blowouts ( at different times ) on china-bombs that PO assured me where only one year old. Who knows what kind of price you would have to pay or the availability of your size of tire in the middle of the night and half way to nowhere.

Your design is awesome. An extra tire is great for if you're traveling into Mexico. I ride on Michelin's, take care of my tires and inspect them regularly. I have a toad that can be used to go to the next town to buy a tire of my choice if the need should ever arrive. I have no desire or need to carry the extra weight or have a expen$ive tire slowly deteriorate under the coach from heat and road grime on the highways of the USA.

I'm sure its worth the piece of mind for the OP and many others would agree. Hope you never do run into trouble but after my experience I know it not only saves money but can save a lot of time which is a precious commodity for some of us when trying to enjoy a family vacation.
