Speedometer takes awhile to work

Hey RVer's just purchased a 2003 Four Winds Hurricane and when driving the speedometer fluctuates all over the place then after awhile it starts to work. It seems to take awhile to settle down. Anybody have a similar problem? Any ideas for a fix? It's a Ford Triton V10. Thanks

If it's a cable driven speedometer the cable needs lubing or replacing. I had one vehicle where the cable cover melted and caused the problem. Had to replace that one.

When this happened with my V-10, I had to replace the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) on the rear differential. It is located on the top left side of the differential as you look forward. The bolt/nut is either 1/2" or 10mm.

Part # F85Z-2L373-AC and costs about $24. Be careful when you are undoing the electrical clips, I broke one side and had to duck tape the connector.

I believe that your speedo would be part of an electronic dashboard system, not a mechanical type, and I seem to remember that your problem is caused by dirty contacts. Your symptoms sound like a connection issue too.

Can't remember which connector but I think I read it here on this forum so perhaps if you did a search here you might be able to find info?

The Fords are notorious for the speed sensor going bad as "isa" stated above. It's a cheap repair to see if it fixes your problem.
