Splendide Ariston Washer Funky Noise

Here is a question for those of you who have installed in your rig the Splendide Ariston stacked washer dryer pair (but specificallly about the washer unit of the pair). We just recently had a this pair installed, and are discovering that the WASHER is making a funky noise when on the RINSE cycle (not the wash cycle). When running the rinse cycle, is is making a funky noise. Kind of like a combination of "Brrrrr, Brrrrr, Brrrr, Brrrr ...." and "Hummm, Hummmm, Hummmm, ... " (well, sort of, but it definitely is not quiet, and is repeating, and is REALLY annoying). It seems to be progressing through the wash cycle ok, but the noise is REALLY annoying ).

Does anyone else who has these units experience this noise???

(or does anyone else who has these units NOT experience this noise???)

With all the recent threads on this forum about whether or not to use a W/D combination, know that we have waited three years to have this thing installed - knowing that having one is a HIGH priority ... but we were not expecting / counting on experiencing that annoying noise.

Please advise of your experiences....

As I always say - thank you all for your wisdom and shared experiences!

Regards,
MN_Traveler (currently on the road in IN - bound for Niagara Falls and Vicinity of Boston )

Splendide Ariston Washer Funky Noise

I love ours.

No funny noise from the washer, but I do here a funny noise under specific circumstances come from the dryer that could be considered a "Brrrrr, Brrrrr, Brrrr, Brrrr ...." and "Hummm, Hummmm, Hummmm, ... ".

It is after the dryer cycle is completed. There is an electoral sound like it is trying to start or something. I found out that the knob does not always turn all the way to OFF at the end of the cycle. All I have to do is be sure it is positioned to OFF and I don't get that noise.

We had the motor in our dryer replaced twice. They seem to last about 2.5 years before the bearings go bad. I live 5 miles from the Portland Splendide facility so easy to fix... $350 if I recall correctly.

Maybe if you posted a sound file, someone might be able to tell you if it is normal or you need to have it looked at.

Well, as this is covered by my extended warranty for the next seven years, I guess I need to realize that I will have to make at least two claims.... I plan to upgrade my coach every 7 years anyway...

Will post a sound file when I get a chance. Again, this sound is coming from the WASHER (not dryer ) ...

It is probably the pump during the cool down cycle of the permanent press setting. You can call
Toll Free: 1-800-356-0766 #5 (503-656-2280)
Direct Fax: 503-722-9202
E-mail: service@westlandsales.com
Hrs: Mon-Fri, 7:00am - 4:30pm (PST)"

and talk to them about it. They can help you to determine if there is a problem and if so what needs to be done to correct it.

Sorry folks - I tried to upload the sound file, but the file is in format .m4a, and this site only seems to allow mp4. My conversion was corrupted. Will try again with another conversion software.

RV_Wizard: can you elaborate on your thought on the pump during the perm. press cool down cycle? Does not the pump operate at several times during the entire cycle (like emptying the at the end of the main wash portion, and emptying during the spin dry cycle??? This noise does not get made at those times.....

Call Westland and they can help you determine what if anything is wrong and go from there.

Resolution of question

Folks - I did call the tech support line, and as soon as I started to ask the question, the tech. support guy said "does it sound like this ..." and did an incredibly accurate reproduction of the sound. He said it is the pump (which empties the water from the unit to the drain) cavitating when it is running with only a partial supply of water from the unit (which makes sense in the rinse cycle when the drum does not have much water in it), combined with the "sloshing" of water back-and-forth (really up-and-down) in the drain tube because the pump does not have enough water supply to push the fluid in the tube all the way up and over into the drain. (for the technical, maybe not really true "cavitation" - but probably more like air in the pump because it does not have a full water supply on the inlet side). Expected and common noise, not indicating anything "wrong" - other than the annoyance factor. He and I discussed the possibility of putting a check-valve in the outlet at the bottom of the rising drain tube, and he thought it would reduce or eliminiate the noise - the question being whether it is worth pulling the unit out of its cabinet to install the valve. I will talk it over with my wife and see how much the noise bothers her (and me ). :-)

Thank you all for your inputs here!
