Spring Rebuild! 1999 Damon Daybreak

Ok...here we go!!! Just got her out of the family barn on Saturday (used it to tow my 25' Tritoon home..man I like the Banks System! ). Drove it 98 miles home in 81 degree heat...started right up and drove great, even the genie ran like a champ! We bought this in late October last year for a month long trip in June & July out west (13 states!) with DW and three kids. Had to find one I could pay cash for. Here is the list of what we plan on changing this spring...wish me luck!!!!!

- Replace factory shocks with Bilstein HD (delivered in mail this week)
- Replace carpets with laminate floors and tile in the bathroom (see below )
- Install black rubber diamond tread pattern on steps
- Replace front TV with 32" TV install 17" in Bedroom
- Install color back-up camera with night vision w/7" color monitor
- New grab handle on outside
- New battery boxes for coach batteries
- removed factory plastic solid shower curtain and enclosure (sticky/slimey & gross!)
- Install new shower bar & curtain
- Install 1500 watt inverter in kitchen to run Keurig & microwave going down the road
- clean and treat outside with Poli-Glow
- Steam clean everything & wash it down to make it ours... (Could not believe the sand and junk under the furniture & carpet!!)

--- Service transmission, rear end, u-joints, brakes (new last year), change oil & plug wires, check all fuel & belts, grease everything....

Long list but looking forward to getting everything done and making it ours...

Good luck!!!! I am anxious to see pictures as you go along. We did a lot of work in our 1997Pace Arrow a couple of years ago. It was an experience!!! Lots of work, but worth it. Don't let anybody tell you that you can't paint those interior walls. Good grade of paint, and voila!!! ugly is gone. Use primer though. Ha ve fun!!!!!

Sounds like you are planning a similar trip to the one we did last year. 26 states and 8,600 miles in 2 months. A paid-for MH is nice, isn't it .

Okay...day 2! Finished the carpet removal. Got all the carpet under the dinette, around the bed, down the hall and in the bathroom (yuck..whose bright idea was that?!? ) removed. Also got the wood floor in the kitchen removed...that was fun...NOT! Lots of glue...

Got a call from the carpet guy that did my basement and he is going to come by this week to give me a price on installing new carpet in the "cab" and on the engine cover. He has done this on several other motorhomes so that should work out!

About 8 hours in demo so far...all after work and in 80 degree heat (beats snow!)...

Picked out the laminate floor for the main portion of the coach, hall and bedroom today along with the vinyl tile for the bathroom and entry steps. Also got the MDF to start mounting the new front TV.

Got the monitor for the new back up camera in the mail today as well. And it came with a "bonus gift"...another small camera.The free camera is a small round recessed type. I ordered a color & night vision rearview camera from a different source a couple weeks ago so I am thinking of installing the "free" camera on the passenger side as a side view camera...the monitor has inputs for two camera's so should work? Has anyone done this?

Is it not amazing that anyone would think that it would take that much glue to hold down a floor!!!! What a job!!!! You really must get it clean too!!! You did a fine job!! We put the laminate down too, and love it. I was not such a bad job for the installer if the place was gutted right out, and clean. We don't have any trouble with the slides either. Wouldn't have that carpet back for anything.

Finished the demo...

Got a price on the carpet install for the dog house so got that stripped and prepped...


then found an old leak in the foot well...ended up ripping the whole thing out and rebuilding it...used a really neat spray on rubber coating to weatherproof the underside...


started putting her back together...Got the underlayment down and taped...

Finally!!! Started installing the laminate! Hoping to get most of it installed tomorrow...

That is a big project. Looks like you are doing a great job of it. Its going to look great when your done. We replaced our carpet with laminate and it is way easier to maintain.

Got the wood floor done (except for the quarter round)...Not too bad...alot of fitting around wires, boxes, heat registers etc. The brand of floor seems to be good quality and "cliks" together with no problems...It was a good father & son project!





The carpet guy is coming tomorrow to do the "cab" area and dog house. If all goes well will be starting to tile the bathroom and footwell tomorrow after work...

The wife has been working hard steam cleaning all the furniture and the seat belts and painting some trim pieces...

Nice job, we plan on redoing our flooring, no carpet for us to much work to keep clean. With the grand kids stomping in and out its easier to sweep and mop than vacuum and shampoo.Also don,t forget the tires, check the DOT numbers to see how old they are, better to be safe than sorry after all that work.
