State Farm Texas RV Insurance 56%+ increase

We have been with State Farm for over 35 years with house, cars, collector cars and RVs but this year it is time to look for another insurance company!

I received a renewal for our motor home a few days ago. Last year the policy was $953.02 and for 2016 they want $1491.37 which is a $538.35 increase! That is over 56% increase in an annual policy!

The person at the State Farm office explained that State Farm Texas had revised the method to rate the policy price from current value of the vehicle to the original MSRP. They are NOT renewing "Personal Auto Policy's" effective the date of renewal and offering a new "Personal Car Policy".

I am now in the process of looking for a new insurance company!!

I saw your post on this in the other thread too.
We had GMAC till we bought the Magna and they wanted double the old premium for the same coverage. Went with Allied for about $500 a year less than GMAC wanted.

Just got a couple of quotes in for 3 vehicles plus the motor home.

State Farm's new rate would be $2963/year assuming no increases on the autos
USAA only insures cars, they use Progressive for RVs, total = $3800~
AARP/The Hartford came in the lowest, $1788/year!

Still waiting on Geico, Foremost and a couple of others.

Try AAA for your insurance package. I shop my insurance every 3 to 5 years. AAA was the lowest cost and best service last time around.

Have had competitive rates from National General / Good Sam for last few years. Full timers coverage, with add on Auto & Collector car available.

WOW ... Holy moly Batman!!!

We have our RV insured through Nationwide. Our cars and house are insured by USSA. Pleased with both.

You could also try Progressive. I know someone that got good rates. And I would also look to move house and other insurance also.

I switched from Progressive to National General and got lower cost as well. I am thinking it is a crap shoot every year at this point.

USAA also works with Foremost. We found Foremost to be the best deal for us.

I'm not sure if that is just something in Texas, but we have everything we own insured through State Farm and just got our MH Insurance renewal. It was the same as last year. We have full replacement cost coverage for the first 5 years and the original quote was based off the MSRP not what we actually paid for the MH. I have had State Farm for over 50 years and nobody has ever beat the rates I'm getting for the coverage I'm getting. I would go over your Agents head and contact somebody from the Corporate Offices to see just why there was a huge increase like that before I change anything.

The only consistency with insurance is that there is no consistency when it comes to rates from one year to the next.

For my motorhome, I've been quite pleased with GEICO, along with a 2010 Harley that I owned for five years and recently sold. Neither have had any rate increases from day 1, but my homeowner's and auto's, through CSAA, have. -RT

Have Progressive, and my rate went up $2.00 this year. Have them through USAA. Because of posts on here about the big increases I always open the envelope very slowly.

It is TEXAS State Farm... not sure about other states.

The invoice I received this year states it is a "Premium Notice and Policy Offer" In past years it has stated it is a "Renewal Certificate"

Under Important Notice it states "Offer of our new State Farm Personal Car Policy. State Farm is now offering our new Personal Car Policy in Texas. Your new policy will be issued as soon as you accept this offer.

The Personal Auto Policy is being discontinued and will not longer be available to you or other customers in Texas"

Notice the change of the name for the policy from old name of "Personal Auto Policy" to new name of "Personal Car Policy" I am sure this is a way to get around high increase rates.
