Steering damper or rear track bar….

Came home last week taking the ‘scenic’ route, a 2 lane highway. The wind gusts were so bad that they almost pushed me over into the other lane...
It surprised me because I hardly notice trucks passing me on the freeway, which made be believe I didn't need anything to improve the handling.

I have looked at steersafe, steer dampers and rear track bars…initially I thought a rear track bar would be the best solution, but according to the numerous posts on the subject, many suggest a steering dampler/steersafe would be the most beneficial.
I already did the CHF (both front and rear) and installed Konis. What else would you suggest…

William

Wm: On my older Bounder...I started on the front end. I used a combo of front end improvements to get the P30 chassis on my Bounder to sit up on the highway. First I went shocks....Bilstein in my case... it made a noticeable improvement. Then better swaybar bushings and a Steer Safe was installed and this really changed the behavior of the front end (nice improvement). I then went with airbag replacements front and rear (helped the wind sway a bit more but not amazingly)....and I still get that tail wag syndrome. If I want the most extensive rear end anti sway...a TRAC BAR (no trac bar yet).

I did this in stages and used empirical quality of ride judgements to choose how it feels to me after each improvement. Huge difference from when I started 2 years ago. Still not the best performance I believe that I can gather but much less surprises from wind and passing trucks. I feel that I am on target with this chassis and I did not bust my wallet all at once. I busted it in stages.

I did VHF, Steer Safe, and rear track bar - each individually to see the incremental improvements before spending money and/or effort on the next. The Steer Safe made some steering improvement, helped with reentering after a turn - but its primary function is to assist to retain control in case of a tire blowout. The addition of the rear track barbers the single biggest improvement- passing trucks, aide winds, and overall stability much better - it took the coach drivability from marginal to very good.

I have Steer Safe on our 36' MoHo, on way back to Texas from Virginia we had a blowout on left front @ 70 mph. There was no panic or fear, the Steer Safe kept the MoHo straight and true until we brought it to a safe stop. Easy to install and well worth the investment and time.
