Step motor and bracket.

My 1988 H.R. 25 ft. Steps have now broke. The motor is working and the steps don't move. A bracket snapped and now don't know how to fix. Need to know what I need to fix it. Thanks

Steps are made of 3 components... The main steps, the drive gears, and the motor/gear. Sounds like you snapped a bracket on the drive gears. Find the brand, often its kuikee. My guess is on a model that old all the labels are shot. Best I can say is figure out what brand and google pictures of the drive gear assembly's to determine what model it is. Amazon is usually the best place for step parts. Thankfully they have used the same stairs for many years so you should/might still be able to get the parts.

My bracket/arm broke last year which is 23 years old. I found that part on eBay for $60.00. Then my gear in the motor gave out, mine is plastic. Got that from Napa, like $12.00. The motors are nothing more than electric power window motors for vehicles, usually, driver front side, Napa.

If you can't take a picture, please describe the broken bracket in more detail - what is it attached to, what does it look like?

Take the motor assemble out and look on the arm/bracket. There should be a part #. If not look on the gear box to see if there's a part # for the whole assemble. If so google or go to e-Bay that # to track down what bracket you need. As I said before mine was 23 years old and got a new one off e-Bay. There are # on them. The assemble is easy to take off. You need to be careful putting it back on though. You will have to work the motor back and forth until the arm and hole line up so you can put the pin and cotter pin back in.

I agree with 1958surfer - your best bet is to figure out what model of steps you have and see if you can find a replacement part. Hopefully you can find a part number somewhere. There are many versions of steps out there and a lot of them used the same parts so quite a few parts are still available. An alternative if you have the other pieces would be to have a good machine shop weld the bracket to get you going until you get a more permanent fix.

Search "Kwikee step parts" on Amazon. Flip thru the results until you find what you need. Nothing to it.

This looks like the right one: https://www.amazon.com/Gear-Linkage-...s=kwikee+steps

But I agree... take it off first and then match it

If you can't find the part, and it isn't too mangled, (hard to tell from the pic) what about having it straightened and welded?
