FINALLY, the biggest problem is the GROUND WIRE, which will be or should be connected to the coach FRAME just behind the step assy. Remove that wire and use a cordless drill with wire brush/putty knife or anything to clean any rust. Re attach the wire and spray with undercoating, your steps should work. JMHO and good luck.
Since selling our motorhome 2+yrs. ago due to health reasons, I just wanted to take the time to thank all of you who helped me solve problems we had with our Fleetwood over the years we were active. The 8yrs. being a member on this wonderful site, it was evident that ALL RV'S regardless of make/model are prone to have problems @ some point. That's the backbone of IRV2 site, helping each other. That being said, that was the reason for my detailed description of a possible solution to a common step problem, maybe yours, maybe not. Again thank you member's whom helped me along the way. I will continue my patronage to a fine group from the sidelines. Many thanks.

Our 2010 Damon Astoria had a similar problem.

Broken wire in the area just underneath the step.....cheap ass construction.

Thank you all for the ideas, this is so sporadic. We disconnected everything and put it back together and it worked twice then stopped again. Since we have other issues, it's back to the dealer again........
