Usually that is caused by an exhausted battery set. Check the batteries.

My experience (if the batteries are good) is the whole mechanism under the steps needs lubricating, particlarly if you are in a humid climate. I Go after mine with a spray lubrcant to all the moving joints at least twice a year. You will also want to make sure the mounting bolts holding the assembly are all tight. I have found them to come loose at times which results in the steps not retracting properly.

Including the above great suggestions, check and make sure the step grounds are clean and all fuses in the circuit are good. Any chance they got damaged? A bent mechanism will cause cause binding.

Lube all the piviots etc. with Castrol chain lube - keep it off of your clothes. It is made for motorcycle chains so won't damage rubber. I do mine 2x per year and they allways work.

Georgetown steps

thanks for your suggestions...I removed the step cover panel & saw the connection to the step motor... I removed the connectors & put them together and the step came down

Make sure it isn't the magnet on the door not making contact.
