Steps won't retract. 2006 Kountry Star Newmar
Our electronic steps will not retract up. Any suggestions? We have a 2006 Newmar Kountry Star. Know it has power because light comes on the box behind the stairs.

I had that problem on my 07, may not be the same issue, but mine required a lot of lubrication and some "extra help" getting them to start going in/out again. Ya gotta get underneath to see where to spray silicon lubrication onto. They work fine now, but they really jammed up and wouldn't go in at all.

Did the retraction just start or has this been an ongoing issue.
If this has just come out of the blue, it could also be the magnet is not making proper contact to tell the steps to retract.
I pulled the magnet out of the door frame and added a small rare earth magnet to the end of the current magnet and it has worked great since.

There is more than one fuse in the system , so even if the step light is working , there may be a fuse issue.

We just had that problem a few weeks ago. We had the steps out for a week while camping and they would not go in when we were ready to leave. The light would go on but no step movement. Found out that the gear in the motor housing was stuck. Try tapping lightly with a hammer to release it. We have a Kwickee step and ended up removing 4 bolts that hold up the motor, gear housing and mounting bracket. WE had to do it this way so I could tie up the steps and be able to drive home. Once home, I took the motor and gear housing off the mounting plate and found where the gear was stuck. Hope this helps.

Tried to send pics of inside door jam 6" above bottom and door hinge where I think the magnet is supposed to be. Can't do picture attachment...I see outlines of where something used to be, maybe the magnet? Should the magnet be inside the silver metal door frame or on the silver frame itself? This is a SCAs/Frigatte coach step system...

GoneRV, where is the magnet. Is it inside or outside the door /door frame unit?

The switch on our 2005 KSDP was on the rear frame of the door inside
the frame wires could be seen from under rv. When ours quit working they would not come out until I tapped the magnet pretty hard with the handle of a plastic screwdriver. Worked every time until I got new switch then it stared working and kept working. All the problems were after driving in some rain almost every day.

Here's where mine is. It's the white dot. Yours may be black.

Look at the screen door about 6"-10" up from the bottom right near the edge of the door. There should be a switch on the door frame and a magnet on the door itself. On mine, the magnet on the door is screwed in place. On the door frame, the switch used double sided tape. If either is missing, then that is the issue. If the switch is off (can't go too far with the wires attached), simply reattach as best you can until you can fix it with new double sided tape. If the magnet is missing, any magnet should trigger it until you can get a replacement part.

Unfortunately every manufacturer does thing a little differently. Usually the magnet is in the door and contact is in the frame.
A way to test is to take a magnet and hold it up against the contact and your step should come in. All this does is simulate closing the door.
Let us know how you make out, hopefully this will work.

Not the motor!
Just spent $150 for a new motor, that wasn't it. Now to get the module, I guess. I am so frustrated.

Are both halves of the door switch in place? I wouldn't just throw in parts.
Wish you had posted you were swapping the motor, the motor used for the steps is the driver's side power window motor for a Ford and can be had for around $50 but you have to replace the plug.

I had the door switch fail on ours. If you pull the switch out and short the contacts and steps go up (if turned on) then the switch is the problem.
