Strange Air Conditioner Leak

Our rear air conditioner is leaking. The weird thing about it, is that it only leaks in a down pour and it is NOT leaking thru the gasket. I tightened up the gasket bolts maybe 6 turns each. They were barely finger tight.

The leak is occurring above the gasket somehow. There is a channel that sits on the top of the gasket and water is collecting in that channel.

Any clues anyone? I'm ordering a new gasket today. I m just confused on how it's leaking above the gasket. Maybe somehow the rain is splashing in somewhere?

Thanks,eh?

A confused camper

I'm not sure what channel your describing , but if its the tray under the finned evaporator, that tray should have drain holes on both ends that allow any water accumulation to drain out across the roof of the RV.
With the unit being as loose as you describe , the original gasket could have squeezed out far enough to plug those drains, allowing the water to get to a depth in the tray , where it overflows into the coach.

Thanks! I'll check that today.
