Summer vacation
As we all know we are in the middle of summe and is hot. I'm fix to take a trip from ATL, GA to TX. I know the engine A/C is not going to be enough to keep my MH cool. The MH A/C only run when I'm hooked up to electricity or with the generator. Is it safe to have the generator on while driving on the highway?

We do this all the time. Just check the oil in the generator and you should be fine. I usually check the oil in ours when we stop for fuel. We have an in-motion satellite dish and someone is always wanting to watch something on TV while we are traveling.

We always take our dogs, and use the house air, and the generator also runs the frig. If really hot out side, the dash air will not cool it for the dogs.

Most definitely! We use ours all the time when traveling, that’s what it’s for. Well that and the microwave, coffee pot 😄

I just bought my first class A and the guy who sold it to me used it a lot. In fact, the cabin / dash AC stopped working and he never even bothered to get it fixed. He just used the coach's 3 roof mounted ACs and the generator.
As a side note, I got the AC fixed (well, it just needed freon, so not a big fix really). It blows cold now, but not cold enough to cool 42 feet of RV on a hot GA summer day. I drove the other day through the north GA mountains and it was barely enough to keep me from sweating buckets. I guess that's the only time the dash AC is going to cut it. When it's just me driving (which isn't that often). The rest of the time, people will be in the back. They'd likely throw a heavy appliance at me if I didn't run the AC.
Have a great trip!
BTW, you might want to look into getting a GPS made for RVs. I just downloaded co-pilot ($39) and have it on my phone. I found that Google Maps would send me down tiny roads that I would rather avoid. If you're just heading out, you might want to check it out, or a dedicated device like the Garmin RV 770.

Yes we run the Gen and AC many times while driving. It gives the Gen the hours it needs to maintain it's good health.

I figured it wouldn't be any issues. I have read California has a very strict law on running generators while driving. Thank you all for the information

I shut the generator off to fuel if I am on or near a fuel island with gasoline, propane or natural gas. Their fumes and my generator will not mix well. I also run a small fan to help blow the cool into the cockpit area.

Just got back from a couple weeks of RVing and temps were generally in the 90's. Ran dash air and the coach AC nearly the whole time while on the road (via genset). As stated before, the dash air would never be able to keep a larger coach cool in that kind of heat. We have three dogs, so necessary to keep more than just he cockpit cool.

As everyone has already said you almost HAVE TO run the house A/C unit to cool the coach in the Summer especially here in Georgia with all the humidity we have.
One little suggestion you may not have thought about if you're new to RVing..........close the bedroom door so that even with the roof A/C unit running you are only cooling the front and not the whole coach. The A/C can keep up a little easier that way. Also there is no reason to run the A/C unit in the bedroom since chances are no one is back there. This makes it easier on your generator too.
Enjoy your vacation!
