super slide cover

I have a 2008 revolution and 2 times in the last 3 years Have had a strong side wind (over 25MPH) tear the co over and roller while going down the road. At $5000 a cover we are getting tired of this .is this a fleetwood prob , the slide problem or just bad luck. We love the slide sitting but U have to drive it occasionally. Any Ideas how to stop this

Hi Chuck Linn,
When the slides are closed, do the toppers roll up into a metal enclosed cover? I do not know Fleetwood. I do know Newmar. Newmar toppers are enclosed in a metal cover. The Newmar factory does work on other Brands. Consider giving them a call and see if they are willing to take a look at your situation. The trip is a good excuse to visit the Amish area in north eastern Indiana. There is a lot to see and do while they work on your coach. They do fabulous work. The only negative might be the lead tech will arrive at 6 AM each morning to begin work! Newmar service number is 800-731-8300.

We had a similar problem happen to us this past February. A large gust of wind unrolled the slide topper, but did not rip it off. We were able to pull into a rest area and bungee corded both ends to keep it from happening. We took it into CW and were told that it was just the tension bolts coming loose. I think it is just another one of those things owning a MH that you have to do preventive maintenance on occasionally - check the tension on the retaining bolts. And, of course be very careful driving in high winds. There are also discussions here in the forum where other members have put other types of retainers over the covers (like PVC Pipe and pool "noodles").

Keep reading and maybe you will find a solution that you can live with.

Not sure how your topper cover is configured, but this thread addresses how we solved a very similar issue!

The locking devices are ~$12.00 each and mount with two self tapping screws!

Luckily I've never had that problem,it would seem that a 70mph head wind would be worst.
