Surge (Coolant) Tank Problems Anyone?

The "Engine" light came on but no diagnostic codes appeared on our '98 Newmar Dutch Star enroute to the Grand Canyon on July 4th. Apparently the surge, or coolant, tank had a leak and was losing fluid and the plastic tank was falling apart. The Freightliner Dealer in Albuquerque, NM sold us a "universal tank" which, of course, wasn't univeral at all and didn't fit! Anyone else encounter the same problem?

You can order the tank directly from Freightliner Custom Chassis in Gaffney, SC. Call 1-800-FTL-HELP and ask the technician on the phone for the part number. He will be able to assist you. Have your VIN# available. He can also give you the direct phone number for their on-site parts department.

There is some helpful info on this thread where several of us changed our coolant recovery tank.
