Surge Guard Lock?

Is theft really a problem in campgrounds? We were wondering if we need a lock for our Surge Guard.

You never know until it happens. There's always a creep waiting for an opportunity. It's like insurance. It's very expensive if you never use it but its real cheap if you do.

I received the lock guard cover when we purchased our surge guard. Used it on every trip the first year. Was a pain to put on and off. Had a family next to us the one trip were he lost the key for his lock. Used a straight blade screw driver and less than 15 to 30 seconds it was off. The plastic don't stop much. Have yet to use it this year.

I guess it depends on where you go. I have heard about most of the camp thefts from state parks. The we "never lock our doors" at higher end RV resorts.

Never had anything stolen. The Progessive 50 portable has been with us for several years now. I am somewhat distrustful of some of the rowdiness I have seen in some of our local SPs. That is the reason we seldom go there any more. I really don't like drunkenness and loud yelling until after midnight. With that kind of behavior often comes other problems. A surge protector can make a tempting target to a besotted mind

Good idea, looks good too!
I have the same brand of protector and have been leaving it hooked up to the poll and usually find a way to cable it to something I can lock. It might slow down a thief or have him make some noise so I could respond.
I also have taken a piece of black electric tape and covered the lights on it so at night it's less noticable and the tape removes easily when there are times the indicator light is good to see, like when first hooking the thing up ant a camping site.

I addressed this issue by using a good sized "S" hook, with the openings big enough to accommodate the heavy wire running from the male plug. Use a bench vice to close up one end of the hook to create closed loop. Insert the wire in the other end of the S Hook and use the vice to carefully close that end around the wire.

As an option, you can now also add a "repair link" and "smash" it closed.

Now it is easy to padlock the device to the pedestal with a fairly short piece of chain.

Have never locked ours up, have stayed in over 100+ different(State,National, Private) RV parks all over the US in the past 3 years. Guess we are lucky. However, have found that most people who RV are generally good people.
