I have the plastic locking device that is made for the surge protector. We don't go anywhere that I would think somebody would steal it, but I still use it. It only takes about 30 seconds to put on/take off. Truth be told you could probably break it fairly easy, and still take the surge protector, but someone would probably see you doing it. Locks keep honest people honest, and make the crooks look for an easier target. We leave all our chairs/BBQ's/ and other camping stuff outside and it has never been taken, but then again a surge protector(at least the one we have) is about $400 and an easy thing to walk off with.

I've thought about that. If someone wants it that bad, they can have it. I bought it cheap from a guy who had a 30A rig but thought the 50A surge protector would be better. Sweet!

Very true!
Our outdoor inventory of stuff is not hoarked from camp because
1. We were in a safe place.
2. It hasn't happened for over 50 years.
And that's all I have to say about that!
A good EMS on a pedestal vs one that is locked up or hardwired inside is moot for us. And I have No Idea why it is a point of differentiation or controversy.....nor why it must be justified!
Be safe. Have fun.

Thanks guys for the replies, I know they are expensive, I just didn't know if those type of things disappear, I made one cross country trip so far and think we stayed in nice places but you never know.

Other reasons I chose to put my portable surge protector in the storage bay was to keep it out of the rain as the plastic lid on it did not close properly when my power cord was plugged in and it also checks the condition of the power cord itself should anything happen to it.

Most pedestals have cover than be locked with a padlock, which prevents the surge protector from being unplugged. Dose not protect the cord, but have never had a problem.
