Surge Protector Saves Us

Bought a Power Watch Dog 50A protection unit after seeing it on RV Geeks. The unit will shut off power if below 108V or above 127V?. It just shut power down. Error code on my phone showed we had a power spike. This surge protector has already paid for itself.

Iím curious if it automatically returned power or did you have to manually reset?

Did it give the duration of the spike?

It shuts off and returns automatically. Power watchdog + EPO is what hughes calls it. Spike modules are cheap and replaceable. The bluetooth is awesome to watch different draws on the coach. Just used it today to see if an ac unit pump was on or just the fan. I can see how often the jc refrigeration punp is running on the norcold after installing it.

Yes, automatically resets after 90 seconds of good power.

No, only shows there was a spike or low power.

One good thing is, if spike exceeds units capacity, the surge module inside the protector is replaceable. A whole new surge protector is not required.

We got a Rogressive surge protector 2 years ago. About 4 months ago we had a bad pedestal and did not know it. Had power on only 1 side. Surge protector saved our butt. Fried surge protector though. Lost all lights but one out of 4. Went online and contacted company. They had a replacement in mail next day. I only had to take picture of plug and socket to show no damage by me. They told me to cut cord off and trash it. No charge for shipping or new protector. Best guarantee and company service ever. I wont go without one again. That 150.00 saved me possibly thousands in cooked electronics.

Different brand (surgeguard) but same issue: been travelng the last two weeks and THREE separate evenings at three different campgrounds we had high voltage (130v or a little more). Surgeguard refused to connect the shore power. Frustrating, but bad power DOES happen ... no shore power is better than the alternative damage to electronics on board...

Its the same brand, just didnt want to name the product exactly for forum. Like I said i wont go without one ever again. One of best insurance policies I have ever bought. Helps also when power goes out at campground and running genny to be able to look out my window and see when it lights up so I know power is back on. Great product.

Yeah. At first it was really frustrating, as it would mysteriously not connect, even though the campground maintained there was power at the pedastal. I have since learned how to read the displays and interpret the voltages displayed. I am glad my rig has it!

Our progressive has kicked the power of a number of times during the hot summer months when we were traveling in the mid-west. Always been a low voltage trip. Our coach has 3 heat pumps and I'm sure this has saved us from having heat pump failures. It always resets after about 90 seconds.
