I carried 2 kayak's on my Class C. The are both Sea Kayaks ~15' long.
- I made 4 elevated Styrofoam blocks that would keep them elevated above the top of the RV. Each block would strap onto the each kayak in the front and back.
- I rigged a heavy PVC pipe that would keep the kayaks separated on the roof tied between the front and back Styrofoam blocks.
- On each side of the RV at the wheel well I fastened a heavy metal tube with 90 degree arm coming out the side of the RV with an eye bolt that I could attach to.
- I used a rope to go across the top of both kayaks and anchored to the eye bolt.
- On the roof to hold the rope off the roof I used Styrofoam blocks with a short piece of PVC pipe to prevent the rope from cutting through the foam.
- I then ran a tie down from the rear of the kayaks that hung over the back of the RV ~3', down to the trailer hitch.
I used this set up for ~10 years, carried the kayaks from TN to Wisconsin, Maine, Florida, all along the East Coast.
Good luck.

Do you tow a vehicle? I intend to acquire a couple kayaks and I intend to carry them on the tow vehicle.

It wasn't too hard to get them up there. I would rest the front across the back of my Class C, climb up on top, flip it over and pull it up. I could load or unload in ~20 minutes.
If we were just dropping them to do a quick paddle I'd just tie the blocks up on the RV and leave the rope attached to the sides connected.
I now pull a Jeep and strap it (now have a 2 man kayak) to the top.

We have a trailer we load with the kayaks, canoe, and two motorcycles. When it's just me though I just slide my kayak (14.5') in the back window of my C.

jdoran, though the racks on the website look good, I think they are a bit pricey. Also, my kayak is 12.5ft long and many folks have 13' and 14' kayaks. Can't really see those racks working then. My RV is already 12'4" so if my kayak is standing on end on the kayak rack now I'm looking at 13' plus in height. I can just picture me forgetting that fact going under a 13' underpass (one 5 miles from my home on Rt. 20 heading to my favorite Finger Lakes regions in NYS). Carry the kayaks on DW RAV4 on a dolly. Old Radio's, that is how my camping good buddy carries his and a couple of times even mine.

Here is our setup. Two kayaks, two bikes and two sets of golf clubs inside the back of the Commander.

I agree with you on cost and measurements. It's one of those bulky items that is hard to find the ideal transport option for. Good luck to you
