Question Temporary license tag??

To save some money, we decided to purchase the 60 day temporary license plate tag for $148.00 instead of paying $695.00 for the yearly renewal here in Michigan. Since we only have the motorhome on the road for about seven months out of the year (stored in our barn for the cold, Michigan winters!), this will save us about $275.00 a year.

Of course, it states you must display it on the lower left corner of your rear window. All of you know that our diesel pusher doesn't have a rear window - so is it acceptable to hang it from the bottom of the ladder on the lower right?? We can't put it under the existing license plate because it's "recessed". My husband laminated it - so we're thinking of just reinforcing the top edge before using a paper punch to punch holes in which to secure it to the ladder with tie straps. I'd love to hear your opinions on how some of you may have done the same thing??? Any problems with people stealing it?? flying off while driving???

You may want to call your local DMV and ask them how you should display the tag, they may have strict requirements.

Good question. If it is a paper plate (I think it is) laminate it and attach it to the license plate frame would be my best guess..... But you are going to have to check this out

go to SOM - State of Michigan and link to both Secratary of State and Michigan State Police sites and post the question there.. MSP has an ASK A QUESTION link on their site and WILL get back to you Print and laminate the answer as well.

NOTE: some cities (Detroit for example) have "Disabled vehicle" ordiances and if you have a vehicle on your property that does NOT have valid registration the officer will assume it is disabled.

The Detroit ord says three conditions must be met before ticket is issued.

1: Motor vehicle
2: Not capable of being started and operated safely upon highway

The one time I got cited it was

1: A trailer
2: In good working order adn
3: Bore valid Michigan Registration

I do admit to a low tire,,, but compressed air was inside the trailer to inflate said tire before moving.
Home is where I park it!

EXCELLENT idea!!! I've emailed both the Secretary of State and the Michigan State Police. We leave tomorrow for two weeks of camping, so I hope they respond quickly.
