Texas Motorhome Inspections (El Paso)

Due a communication error i spent about 4 hours trying to find a shop which would perform a TxDOT inspection for me in El Paso today. Finally found Stanley Spring & Suspension, they are located just off I10. They performed the inspection quickly and had me on my way. I highly recommend them. With the new Texas vehicle registration laws coming into effect in March you might want to keep their address on file.

I hope this law is not like NC. We were forced to take refuge in SD after the NC change. Basically you could only renew your registration after getting an inspection in the month prior to expiration. We had two vehicles on different schedules and would need to return to NC twice a year to comply. Being FT that made no sense to us. Hopefully the TX law turns out to be different. Will follow this closely since there are thousands of FT rregistered in TX.

I was down at their office a few months ago and asked about our exempt plates and inspection stickers as we do not have plate stickers and the lady just looked at me with a blank stare. She said she would know more next year. My guess is it will be another "we did not think about that" thing.
I have to get plates for my truck and car in the next week or two so will ask then as they should now know more.

Hope all you posters can forgive me am in the process of selling my house and going
park retiree.... things are in a little of an uproar... doing this on the tablet as the
laptop is some where in the shift... I am the guy that posted and dissapeared a while
back about the awnning problem wasn't a problem the strap was ripped off the
coil tube.... it was three inches long...

I have always had our motorhome inspected by the same place that does our automobiles, no problem at all.

Special Circumstances

Out of State Motorists

If your vehicle is out of state and you are unable to complete a Texas vehicle inspection in order to renew your registration, you will be able to self-certify that the vehicle is out of state and will be permitted to register. The self-certification process will be limited to:

• Active duty military
• Full-time students
• Seasonal Texans, RV’ers
• Apportioned vehicles
• Elected Congressional officials

You will be able to renew your registration using self-certification online, by mail or in-person. Please contact your county tax office for more information about their requirements for out-of-state registration renewal. To find the contact information for your county of residence, please visit the TxDMV website.
If you renew your vehicle registration using the out-of-state self-certification option, a remark will be placed on your vehicle record indicating that an inspection is still due. Once you return to the state, you must complete a Texas vehicle inspection within three days of arrival at your home, duty station, or destination. It is very important that you keep the VIR issued after completing your inspection in case you are stopped by law enforcement before the remark is removed from your vehicle record, which takes about 48 hours. The remark will only be removed upon payment of the state’s portion of the inspection fee and verification of a current, passing inspection.

Thanks Texnet that what i was referring too. If anyone is returning to Texas (when the new law comes into effect) and has only 3days to get inspected the facility in El Paso, because of its proximity to I10, will be very handy.

In my case i had asked the facility i last used for service to also do my TxDOT inspection but they forgot. I was just about to get to NM when i noticed my sticker had not been updated hence the panicked search.
