Well, heres the truth...I keep reading about how noisey it is in a gas compaired to a dp coach...

quotes like "We have to scream at each other to talk..

so I got a Db meter and headed out across the desert... keep in mind that city traffic is 85 db....

Could you provide some reading while the coach is climbing a 6% grade and the tach pushing about 5K RPM?
I believe there is only a mild difference between a gas coach and a DP at 62 MPH on level ground. The real difference is ascending steep grades.

I think I have 10 or so videos showing me pulling a 22' loaded box trailer up a 6% grade...but the videos show me going 20 mph faster that the 350 hp diesel... but none are at 5000 rpms....

all the videos i'm talking in my normal voice....

exactly. Or you can just look at the other video he posted of climbing a grade in that RV where the engine is screaming the whole time.

you have to do the test apples to apples ...in the video, I went up the hill 60 mph with my gas coach..


in the video I went up it 37 with a journey dp 350 hp


it I go up the hill 37 mph... the motor doesn't make much noise...


but i'm gonna check... interesting post...

but maybe it will still be the same because of it will be in 2nd gear???

no doubt the gas motor in front is gonna be louder..but also the diesel motor in front is louder than the gas..... the diesel is louder in the bedroom..


I got up to 78db pulling the grade....

heres the facts though...

gas is faster to take off...
gas is faster to stop

gas is faster 40mph-60mph..

these are with the older v-10's

It never ceases to amaze me the lengths which some people will go through to justify their opinion.

I've driven gas and diesel coaches. I have no doubt that on level ground they would be very similar, because all you're hearing is the wind noise.

On steep grades, there is absolutely no comparison. You can't hear yourself think a gas coach with the engine roaring away at 4000+ RPM just 12 inches from your feet. On the same grade you don't hear the engine at all in a diesel.

Case closed.

It sounds like the OP has an axe to grind. Every RV is different. Some have better sound insulation at the doghouse than others.

I can say from my own personal experience that you could not have a normal conversation with my Winnebago Adventurer on a Workhorse chassis. It wasn't too bad a lot of the time but on hot days when those twin cooling fans kicked in it was uncomfortably loud. Could we have improved that situation, probably so but other factors became more important than the noise factor. We decided to go FT and decided we wanted bigger and have more CCC and axle capability that what we had with the workhorse. In short, there is no comparison when it comes to noise in MY experience between OUR gasser and OUR DP.

So, for the OP I am very happy that their coach meets their needs and provides enjoyment. This isn't a belly bumping contest of trying to say mine is better than yours. OTOH, I am very happy with our choice and our experience is the opposite of the OP's.
