Here's the check list i came up with after spending $5k on the toad because I forgot to double check it was out of gear. I tried to attach it as a doc file but it didn't work. The following is my pre trip check list I have 3 date columns to document what I've done. Hope it helps

Pre Trip Check List Date:
Check oil
Check antifreeze
Check Tranny Fluid
Awnings: In and Locked
Power Cord: Unplugged and Stored
Water: Unhooked and hoses stored
Rugs Snake etc. : Picked up
Walk Around: Tires, Obstructions, Leaks
Compartments: Closed locked
Front Shade: Off & stored wipers up
Dump: Hoses cleaned , picked up, valves closed and capped


Inside:
Refrigerator: Off
Hot water heater: Off
Doors: locked
Toilet Seat: Down
Dishes and loose: Stored
Shades: Stowed

Start up:
Slides: In
Back up Camera: On
Step: On
Tire Monitor: On
Mirrors: Adjusted
GPS: Programmed ready to go
Toad: Properly Hooked up (see toad check list)

 

Toad Check List Date:
Tow Bar:
Hooked
Pins: in and locked
Safety Cables: Hooked up (X pattern)
Break Away: Hooked
Air: Hooked up
Power Cable (lights): Hooked (screw up)
Turn Signals brake lights (toad and bus): work
Emergency Brake: Off
Transmission: Neutral
Key: One click back
Slack: Removed from tow bar
Tires: No flats or low
Walk Around: Double check all of the above

Transfer case: Neutral (n.a. Subaru)
Fuse(s): pulled (n.a. Subaru)

Don't forget to detach your shore power cord from RV before leaving the house........yup I forgot once.

Remember those site number markers on the site opposite the one you are backing into are in the ground all the way to a CG in China. They do not move but the fiberglass on the front of your rig does when you cut the wheels to back in. Twice I have done this. The first no big deal the second looks not so hot but not really that noticeable. In the body shop she goes this spring when we get home.

Here's one for the newbie. Make sure to crank the dolly legs on your 5th wheel camper high enough to take the weight off the truck before pulling out. And for extra safety, don't put your hand on the truck box side rails when your partner pulls out... ouch!

Heres one for ya remember to always check under the steps on your Rig, if you have one of those DWs that likes to put the extra little step under your Rig steps before you let airbags down . Your steps will have quite the bend in them , gonna be fun to fix this one. DWs so dang cute couldnt get upset with her she was tearing before i even saw it .Got to love her. It is what it is--

We recently added an enclosed car hauler to our repetoir of things towed. Prior to that, I towed a '91 Toyota P/U on a towbar. I did all of the 'hooking up', it was pretty straightforward, and didn't require DW's help.

After a series of 'hooking up' the trailer behind the 40' Diesel Pusher, our set of hand signals was expanding to include some vulgar ones. She directing, me in the seat backing.

I hit on the answer. FRS walkie talkies. After cautioning her that I will still stop immediately if I lose sight of her in the mirror, she decided to be on the curb side for our first hookup on the road. Everything went swimmmingly, I am creeping backwards, closing the 10 foot gap back to the hitch. I had also preagreed that she keep the mike button depressed while talking to me, and I would immediately stop if she let go of it.

As the gap closed, her beautiful soft voice saying the words close... closer...stop! The cold clattering Cummins had completely covered up her commands as it got closer. Just about the time that my brain said I must be there, the lurch told me I was.


Of course, the body shop can fix that.....

We now use a combo of visual and voice on any backup manuevers.
