Pulled into CG, DW went in to register. Tinker climbed up on dash to watch, just then the Casino limo pulled up to unload. Tinker steps on the AIR HORN, 4 passengers and the driver, need to change shorts.
Turn off Air Horn when entering CG.

Do not assume young man at rv repair knows how to drive motorhome. Young man says boy this thing makes a lot of noise really screaming metal when you turn a corner. I says no it doesn't, he says yes it did. I say did you let it air up all the way before you tried driving it? Blank look on face, I knew that answer. Thankfully he didn't tear anything up. I still can't believe that.
Husband backing out of garage, I say whats that noise, he says I don't hear anything. I said well I do, he says oh you are always hearing things. I said no I heard a clunk when going out and a clunk when driving back in. We looked all around except on top, nothing.
Was in shop in Florida getting new W/D in, and having dome changed from Direct TV. Repair guy says did you know your spotlight is broke off up here and dangling?? Now I know what the noise was, garage door must have not been pushed all the way up, thankfully it didn't hit anything else. Just had light removed.
Husband rarely drives motorhome, was backing up in yard in Texas, he is watching I am screaming, STOP STOP! He did not see back corner of rear cap about to hit tree, only a scratch but if he had kept going would have torn it off.
He said I was looking at side not at top where tree was leaning over.
When working on top of motorhome, make sure your ladder is secure or have a second. Hose wrapped around it and knocked it down. I'm screaming for DD and thankfully neighbor was home. He thought it was hilarious and suggested I stayed up there for awhile, I did not appreciate the joke!
Release emergency brake all the way on toad before driving, luckily it was not down good or would have been big repair I'm sure.
Also on motorhome engine, I did not know you turned the oil level dipstick to secure. I just pushed in. I said I see oil from something when I drove today, must be having an engine problem. He says did you turn the dipstick, I'm going, oh you have to do that, sigh.
I think that is enough for now. I have learned SOOOOOO many things.

Backing up
Right mirror tells where the wall of the garage is. Backup camera lets me keep backing up till I take off the eve trough on the garage. ( but I could see the hitch as plain as day and have never damaged it).

Don't forget about the Swing of your backend when pulling out of a camping spot with big herky tree stumps lining the drive.
When you hear a "crunch", don't keep driving.
When the tree limb hooks your mirror, stop.

Am STILL laughing about leaving the huzzband at the truck stop, children at the campground [not THAT funny] and beans setting off the LPG detector! [Poor dog!]

Make sure you are very clear in your explanation of the fresh water input and the flush input on the side of your RV. I watched a neighbor's wife hook up the fresh water line to the flush line. Knife valves closed, all the old sewage backed up, went up the vent pipe and out the toilet inside the MH. Bad scene man. I could hear the screaming two blocks away.

Just spent the last few hours perusing this informative thread that has persisted for over a year and a half! It's brought back many fond and mixed memories of my own RV experiences over the years involving a few TTs, a 5th wheel and our current MH. It has expanded my precautionary repertoire and prompted some legitimate adjustments to my check lists.
Although you are all aware of these, I'd like to share few additIonal thoughts:
1. When using your "Big Rig" to stock up on essential supplies (or fuel), don't assume if there is a driveway marked "Entrance Only" at one end of a busy large shopping center parking lot that there is another one marked "Exit Only" at the other end - "Check for exit before entry".
2. Don't assume the experienced-looking "campground guide" is actually knowledgable about rear end overhang/swing, height restrictions, slide-out deployment, etc. See #3 below.
3. When maneuvering your RV, despite what ANYONE else is telling you, when in doubt, stop, get out, and check for yourself - "When in doubt, get out".
4. When moving (extending or retracting) your slides, check (at least) twice that your bay doors are closed or properly secured - "Check twice, move once".
5. The consistent use of a proper portable or hard-wired surge/power protector is highly recommended to help safeguard your RV's electronics and appliances.
How do I know these things?
I very much appreciate the willingness of all participants to share their (or others) experiences for the potential benefit of their fellow RVers!

Do not learn how severe rear end swing can be while backing out of your driveway.
While backing, I checked the mirrors and was sure I had my old camper cleared. I cut the wheel because I wanted to get a little further from the drop off on the opposite edge of the driveway.
You guessed it. I hit the old TT with the brand new MH. Fortunately, the damage was small: a scratch on top of the MH and a busted clearance light and scratch on the old TT.
Yeah, its just a little scratch.

I know this is awful and many of these things are expensive to repair, but I'm setting here laughing as I've done a few of these myself. LOL!

Make sure you don't run into the fence but don't forget to look out for the gutter hanging out on the patio. Also don't let your wife hold the storage door while you install a new shock on it. As soon as the old one popped off the door hit me in the head.

Not if they are Kwikee.. Those shut off when the step hits an obstruction, Saves on many things.

They also seem to have a habit of shutting off for no reason. That is until you post "help my steps don't work" here at iRV2.
