Thinking about the Lake Superior Great Circle Tour

My brother in law in Canada suggested that we get together to do the great circle tour round Lake Superior. This would be a caravan of a 34 foot and a 45 foot RVs.
We are thinking abut doing this trip at the end of August and allocate 4+ weeks for this tr.
Who has done this trip?
All comments will be appreciated!
Cheers,
Ronald

We did the "Scenic Drive" from Duluth to Thunder Bay. Great route and interesting things to see. A nice municipal campground in Grand Marais, and one in a marina near downtown Duluth. Great ship watching.

I have done it on snowmobile and it beautiful. GM camp ground is a state park I believe and is right on the lake. This would be a great trip. Gets a bit cold in February. You might not find a lot of full hook ups but moving as often as you would it would not be a issue. If you go a full recap of the trip would be nice. I would love to do it myself. .

I highly recommend this museum: The Whitefish Point Light House Station - Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society

Did this twice on a motorcycle in 09 & 10. Cut out a lot of the MI UP as we had seen most all of it before. 2009 was 6 days of rain and 2010 was 5 days of sun. You have the time, so stick close to the shoreline as much as possible especially in MI. Sights are a little more sparse between the top of Superior and Sault St. Marie so plan accordingly. Do the Kewannau Peninsula loop as well as the Apostle Islands. Stop earlier in the days as things are farther apart than a lot of places and "critters" come out early, some you don't want to bump into. You have lots of time so drive slow, look alot and enjoy......you may not pass this way again! Google "Lake Superior Circle Tour" and study up.

We just got back last week from touring around Lake Superior in the UP. We went into Ontario, Canada in New York and came back in to the US at Port Huron, Mich. The roads in Canada were wonderful. When we came into Michigan. the roads were horrible. They did get some better up in the UP. Beautiful country in the UP and Lake Superior is unbelievable. Being from Florida and used to the ocean, we kept waiting for the tide to change in the Lake. The State parks in Mich are nice, and frequently have electric hookups, but no water hookups.
