You hate to see stories of blow outs causing accidents. But the loss of life makes it even that much more of a tragedy.

Breaks your heart to see this happen.
For most folks it is virtually impossible to keep your foot on the gas when you hear the BANG of a blowout. Hitting the brake is a natural reaction. Unfortunately, as most of us know, hitting the brake only makes it worse. Just pure coincidence, but I had ordered a Safe-T-Steer last week and it goes on Wed. A few weeks ago while planning our first big trip of the year, my DW asked me, "What do you fear most about driving the coach?" Without hesitation I said, "A front tire blowout."

It's just awful, so devastating. That was my biggest fear also. After our coach was totaled THAT was the first thing that went on the replacement. Hearing accidents like this sends chills up my spine. It's such a crap shoot...

Without a doubt products like Safe-T-Plus should be standard equipment on all motorhomes when they leave the factory. Trouble is manufactures want to keep costs down but safety should be paramount.

Edit: I meant to write "Safe-T-Plus"

So sad! I wonder if the MH had any type of steering stabilizers such as SteerSafe? It might have saved their lives!

So sad to hear. We have discussed that as a fear for us, too. Definitely need to check into safe-t-plus. Prayers for them and their family.

Being prepared is important, so is being educated. This video shows preventative actions that may be counter-intuitive to many.

Great video
A Safe-T-Steer is your best friend if this should happen

Exact opposite of what I have done in every RV tire blowout I've dealt with in the 28 years I've been driving an RV. Sorry, I'm not flooring the gas when I have a blow out. The whole key is to not panic and slam on the brakes; THAT is what causes blowout accidents, not lack of acceleration. Flooring it does nothing other than increase your speed; you STILL have to slow/stop the rig, and after you floor it, you STILL will have the exact same side forces return, only now at an even higher speed.
IF I ever have a blowout that I cannot control the rig's sideways pull, then perhaps I will try gassing it to regain that control, but I doubt that will be the case (since it has never been the case yet, including a right front blowout at 55+mph going down a freeway offramp). Again, not panicking and slamming on the brakes is the key to controlling a blowout. If you have to floor it to remember that, well...
Of course, I'm sure there will be plenty of people posting the opposite view here, so...
