Thor ACE 29.2 towing

Hi,

I'm thinking about purchasing a 2012 ACE 29.2 motorhome.
In the manual I saw a restriction about towing a car.

"A separate functioning brake system is required for any towed vehicles or trailers weighing mort than 1000 lbs when fully loaded."

Does this mean I need a tow dolly with electric brakes?
I thought I can use a tow bar for my car (Dodge Durango).

How do you guys tow your car behind the ACE?

Thanks!

Juergen

It means is you need a supplemental braking system over a certain weight, either flat towing or dolly. If flat you need an auxiliary brake like a brake buddy.

Its not just the ACE, but you will find a braking system a must for most all RV's towing a vehicle, whether it is on a dolly or 4 down with a tow bar. I believe most states require a braking system of some sort on a towable. Several dolly's have electric or surge brakes available. Your main concern should be, to be sure your Durango is a towable vehicle, 2 down or 4 down and total maximum weight the ACE will handle. You can add a portable braking system inside the Durango also if you want to use a tow bar.

Thank's a lot for your help!
So that means I need to purchase a tow dolly with electric brakes. That would be probably the easiest solution.
To add a brake control to the ACE shouldn't be a problem, right.
I guess everything is prepared for plug and play...

if you are going to buy then I would ask the dealer to install the brake control. That is what I did because standard on my 29.3 was a 4way flat plug but yet there was a pigtail with my coach for connecting a brake control. Save yourself the grief and let them do it.

I had a 2012 ACE 29.2 that I towed a Lincoln MKZ Hybrid. I had a Brakebuddy Stealth braking system installed into both the ACE and the Lincoln. I just sold the ACE. It was an easy deal to move the controller from the ACE to my new MH. No problem flat towing with the ACE. I live in Colorado and the ACE will take on the diesels going over the mountains.

I tow a 2004 wrangler behind a 29.2 and use NSA Ready Brake. I have over 6000 miles with no problems at all.
