Thor Tuscany

I'm looking about buying a 2014 Thor Tuscany from a private seller and wanted to know how's the best way to go about getting it inspected before I purchase it. Also does anyone know on this model on the passenger set there is a foot rest that raises from the chair, does this raise level with the seat or should it only come up part way?

I never sit over there, but DW says it comes up most of the way (maybe 90%) to level. We have had to work on that seat mechanism twice -- once for a wire that came loose, and more recently to replace the worm gear mechanism entirely, because it would hang up at one end of its travel.

Overall, our 2014 Tuscany has been "okay" I'd say, once the original quality issues were fixed. We took it back to the factory service center twice during the warranty period, and as others will tell you, the Thor factory service is as good as their initial quality control is bad. Since then, we've had what I'd call "typical" issues, mostly with third-party components. We've never had trouble with the Schwintek slide mechanisms, as some have.

As with any used coach, I would suggest that you get a look at all of the previous owner's service records, and have a thorough inspection done (sorry, I don't know where to find an inspector, but it would help if you told us where the coach is now). Chances are that the chassis components will be fine, but pay special attention to slides, HVAC (including Aqua-Hot), plumbing, and electrical system. Run all of the systems, put slides and awnings in and out several times, etc.

Good luck with your purchase!

Thanks so much, this unit is in Ft. Myers, Fl. I noticed the passenger seat foot recliner portion only came up about 90 %. Have you had any issues with the window shades, getting them to roll back up?

Those shades (by MCD, I think) are used on a lot of coaches in recent years. They can be a bit stubborn about rolling all the way up sometimes. I think there's probably some way to adjust them, but I've always been able to get them to work well enough that I've never explored a fix. In any case, I find them to be a big improvement over the previous generation, which was a cellular-type shade that had other problems.

Hopefully someone more familiar with the Florida Gulf Coast area can suggest an inspector. You might have to create a new thread with that subject in the title.
