Considering buying a Thor Vegas, Class A. I'm a newb to RVing, but this one appears to make sense. I understand that RV refrigerators require the RV to be level (or at least very nearly so) in order to work properly. Question - any idea how this is to be accomplished on the Thor Vegas?

First of all it only has to be level when fridge is turned on. #2, It does not have to be level when the coach is moving this shakes the fridge coolant so it circulates even when not level. #3, when not moving and the fridge is on:

- front to back has to be within 3 degrees of level
- side to side has to be within 6 degrees of level

Coolant won't circulate if more this much out of level. So fridge won't cool and it will eventually damage the refrigeration system forcing you to replace it if you run it out of level more than the above. Used to be this could also start fires but newer fridges have protection to shut them down before they overheat to the fire starting point.

If you park somewhere where you can't be this level like stopping for lunch, shopping, etc. turn off the fridge until you can move again, food will stay cold in particular if you don't open the fridge or freezer door. Long term parking you will have to park within the level specs I gave above or leave the fridge off. Long term parking on unlevel spaces you use blocks under the wheels to get it level if you don't have leveling jacks.

The Thor Vegas/Axis is a new niche' in the US, but mature in Europe. And they are riding on an E-Series Ford Chassis, which gives them an independent front suspension . This should provide a very good ride experience.

The fridge does not require perfect level, as said above. And for many years, these 2 way systems have been in RV's that had no self-leveling...they work very well.
It it best to level your RV for general long-term comfort, so any owner of a RV like this (Class B, C, or small A) will want to use blocks when the ground it too unlevel.

Thanks guys! Great answers, much appreciated. Am struggling with the negative reviews I've been reading. Realize that there will always be challenges great and small with any RV...but greatest fear is getting stuck somewhere with a major issue that neither Thor nor Ford are as responsive as we might need them to be.

You can get a set of Levelers installed for around $3500 or less. Also there seems to be a lot of quality problems with the ACE and Vegas, In the Thor forums a lot of complaints. Of course you never here from those who have not had problems.

Negative reviews will out number positive reviews by a wide margin. People tend to complain about the bad but seldom praise the good.

Lynx leveler blocks are adequate enough for leveling an Axis or Vegas.

We have two sets and I have yet to use them to level our 2015 Vegas 24.1. We have camped about 100 days this past year and every park we have been in was level enough for us. Our Vegas has a nose slightly down orientation. The water left in our shower pan generally runs to the front drivers corner of the pan.

Even being off this amount of level, we have never had a problem with or refrigerator not working. I do not believe that the refrigerator level is that critical that it effects the refrigerator operation.

We've installed our Auto Level hydraulic system on more than a few of these Thor units, and it's worked flawlessly. We also now have a manually controlled system, Level-Lite, which would also be a great fit for these Class A motor homes. Check them out in the links below:

The headline says these are for Class C units, but that Thor Vegas (as well as the ACE and Axis) is built on the same Ford F series chassis as many Class C's, and is the one we recommend.
