Tiffin RED RV
Am confused, what is a RED type RV, I thought they were front end Diesel engines , but I found that is not true. So what does that term mean? And why do those models seem to cost less?
Thanks

The Red is simply a model in Tiffin's diesel pusher line up. Kind of like GM has Chevy, Buick, and Cadillac. Tiffin has the Breeze, the Red, Phaeton, Bus, and Zephyr. All are diesel pushers.

We thought the name Allegro RED was also a play on the city where Tiffins are built. . . . . . . . . .RED Bay, Alabama
We love our RED

Right. Tiffin was a big user of the FRED on their Allegro line of motorhomes. FRED was Freightliner's name for their FRont Engine Diesel chassis. When Tiffin came out with a Rear Engine Diesel version of the same coach, they called a RED.

Just to clear things up. I believe Tiffin discountinued the FRED (front engine diesels) floorplans a few years ago (I suspect the additional cost of the FRED pushed them close to the DP price and from a sales point of view, I think many prospective buyers where concerned the FRED would be too loud (although personally, I'd rather have a FRED than a gasser and don't really understand why all gassers aren't FREDs)).

The reason is cost. Motorhomes on the FRED chassis when Tiffin was using it used to cost about $10,000 to $12,000 more than the same floorplan on a gas chassis.

I'm not surprised to hear that it was that much of a premium on the Tiffin when they were offering it but I think a lot of that is because they were offerering only as an option and not across all models. I'd like to think that a big part of that was simply economics of scale and that if they offered FREDs (e.g. Duramax) on all gassers the price difference would be significantly less but I don't work in the industry and really have no idea.
