Which series auto tint did you use, perhaps a part number? I am looking at the Gila USS46, which is a 35% VLT, but several customer reviews say it has a bluish tint when viewed from the outside. I don't want those windows to look different from the others.

i bought those from autozone, i remember it's "gila" brand, just a basic tint like $9.99 per roll (24" x 6'). it does not look bluish just black from outside. i used 20% but i am sure 35% is good too. i did it two years ago, i think i used two rolls for both sides, and a roll of "extreme" 2.5% for windshield.

joe and annette, i just looked up gila uss46 on amazon http://www.amazon.com/USS46-Scratch-.../dp/B0006301EG. apparently it's not the same line as what i used. this one has a smoke color, which represents greyish, warmer color than the basic tint. it's supposed to be a better grade.

There is no noticeable tint but it is very effective at screening UV and IR radiation and it does seem to help with heat. Now the downside. When we were having the film applied the installer (after a couple of failures) asked if he could apply the film in strips as it would not shrink both across the width and length. He explained that our windshield had some extreme curves and the film would not conform if he did it in one piece.
Nievely I agreed. The installer made sure no seams were in my immediate field of vision so that part was fine. The film, however, is polarized and the polarization planes did not align
So now if I wear polarized sunglasses I get to experience a 60's flashback with splendid dynamic re coloring of the road and cars ahead! You have no idea how hard it is to find non-polarized, comfortable sunglasses!

Steve, I'm pretty sure that's what I have on both my pickups. I think it also comes more tinted if you want. Do you think that it is not possible to do it as one piece on our big windshields, or was that just your installer. This is something I would like to pursue, possible using a darker tint as far down as possible, then the clear stuff on the rest of it.

Scotty it may well have been the installer though he was experienced. They tried twice to do it with a full single sheet but each time it would not form. The installer told me that the material will only shrink well in one direction and as the windshield has a compound curve it would wrinkle.
If your guy can get it to work let know
