Tire Buyers Beware

i was ready to buy m/h tires online. (22.5s) prices were good, shipped free to a local installer and installed "free."

Until i read fine print. their contract lays out the rules when it comes to tire age. If the tires dates are 4 yrs or less they can be returned if the buyer pays the shipping. If more than 4 yrs old the dealer will pay the return shipping. How kind.

So you pay a couple/few thousand dollars to these guys. They ship the tires and they are 3 yrs 51 weeks old before you even mount them. You can then pay to ship 450# of rubber back to them.

Buyers beware.

Wow...good to know! Thanks for reading the fine print for those of us that don't. (Turns out I'm not so good with details...ugh)

Yep, the same thing happens with motorcycle tires.

Bought 6 made in the USA - Yokohama 255/70R22.5 RY023 16 ply I saw on ebay from World of Tires.

I was very satisfied with the experience. I did not see any fine print about tire age. I did call and talked to them about tire age and other choices.

In any case I recommend researching tire on line because of the large number of choices.

We have purchased multiple sets of 22.5s from Costco over the years by phone, but had to pick them up at the local store, load them up in the MH and take them 20 miles to an OTR truck shop for installation.

And as we all know, you can return anything to Costco forever.

You can almost always beat the online prices by checking around locally. I had a quote from Simple Tire online for Toyo 295/80/22.5 with free shipping and no sales tax. My local dealer beat them by $35 per tire including sales tax. Buying local gets you better service for adjustments and helps the economy.

I too agree with your buying local if at all possible as any related issues 'should be' addressed easily rather than trying to do something over the phone. AND..I like supporting our local businesses. And a double AND AND..when you establish a relationship with them and include your friends and relatives (Kids in my case) they at least appear to work a little harder and give deals to you as well as the friends and family members.

My 2 cents.

tire buyers beware

The company was world of tires. Prior to reading their fine print, I emailed them about the tire age issue. I never got a reply. then i read their fine print and because of it moved on. personally, i would not send them $2500 on the chance i would get dated tires and then go through the hassle of returning same on my dime. As Dirty harry once said "you feel lucky?"

As I said before, I was very happy with the service but I did get on the phone and had several discussions.

If you are are full time there is no longer a 'local'. If I was in Washington or Oregon, I know where I would go to buy tires.

Doing business on the internet and having things delivered where ever you are works pretty well.
