Sure hate to get rid of them Usually keep my jacks on to lighten the load on the tires while they sit.

One thing to consider when confronted with the "age-out before it wears out" issue is that you might get a better price selling the tires to a local truck company if the tires are a bit newer.

I have often thought a RVer could go to the trucking co, offer half new cost for tires that had 20% tread life, and get life almost as long as new.

Never thought of that one. When I bought this rig it had 235/80 22.5 on it and when I went to the tables after weighing I found that my tires were kind of maxed out and under stress. So I changed to 255/70's so I could have a greater safety margin. Tires were ideal for my 7.5 inch rim width. And these type tires are readily available on the road since they are common truck tires. So maybe they are worth something to a truck company. But it may bite me.

When I had my 5th wheel one day a truck was passing and a tire exploded when he was abeam the front of my truck. The tire flew into the front of my truck so we both pulled over. Took about 45 minutes to clean all the fragments under the hood. Fortunately no radiator or windshield damage.

The pneumatic tire was invented to serve as a traction device and a cushioning device. In order to perform its design function it requires a certain amount of inflation and a source of energy to set it in motion. By itself, it is not a source of energy, therefore any role that it might play as part of a force will be a resultant force. It normally is mounted on a wheel which rolls on tapered bearings in order to minimize the rolling resistance that is a product of the force of the mass momentum pushing against the traction of the tire.

The guy said 100% certainty within 100 miles. I drove 200x that.
There is no room for outliers with something that will happen with 100% certainty.
My point is only that the person who said that is pretty much clueless about any topic on tires.

Correct, thanks for the clarification. Most of my statistical work was in manufacturing defect elimination with Six Sigma. In that type of work any manufacturing defect that fell outside of three times the standard deviation was called an "outlier" and needed investigation.

Ray - nice to hear ... i am an MBB (Lean Six Sigma) myself. My problem with the term “outlier” is that way, way too often, people would use that term to justify exactly the opposite: “oh, thats just an outlier (or flyer)” .. one of a kind ... wont happen again ... and use that rationale to justify ignoring the signal. But of course it did (happen again). Arrrgh. [emoji4]

Anything is possible. His TPMS did not give any indication of a leak. it did alarm immediately the tire blew. The tire was destroyed and in the act of cleanup was discarded.

There was a thread on the forum that was posted. Was discontinued due to bad behavior from some parties.

Nice to cover more ground when crossing the big states, but i do have to admit 60 mph is MUCH more relaxing. I will stop that practice. But you think 65 (steady state) is acceptable?

For some reason people seem to think the "Speed Symbol" means that travel at the implied speed can be followed for hundreds or thousands of miles, when in fact the speed test SAE-J1561-2001 Laboratory Speed Test Procedure for Passenger Car Tires is run only on brand new tires on a smooth drum for 30 minutes then the speed is increased to the next level. Tires are also only loaded to 80% of the tire's max load. Once a tire completes 30 minutes at the goal speed, with no external visible failure it is considered to have "passed.

The tire, however, is not considered safe for future use and is scrapped.
You will also note that the test is intended for "Passenger Tires" and was not developed for other type tires.

Few also consider the reason the speed symbol was added to ST type tires only to avoid import tarriffs placed on non-speed rated tires.

Perhaps some will find this NHTSA passenger auto and light truck tire aging study and tests interesting: https://www.scribd.com/document/1373...-on-tire-aging.
Yes tire aging does occur when not used:https://www.nhtsa.gov/equipment/tires, buy 5 new tires instead of 4 when your old tires require replacement,-IF you even have a spare, Cadillac autos today do not come with a spare tire.
